Comments about Pelican 1499C Computer Bottom Insert:
This insert is made for Pelican's 1490 laptop case, meant to hold and safeguard one's laptop. The computer straps in with a velcro strap over two foam-filled compartments (which are cube cut, so you can use them to store power adapters, small drives, cords, etc), and a channel along the side that works well for extra cables and the like.
The computer is well secured and protected from the bottom, but there's nothing extra for the sides and top, so you still can't bang the case around, and have to be mindful of what you put in the case's top pocket. For smaller laptops, it does come with an l-shaped piece of foam to help secure it from side to side.
Pelican rates the case to hold computers up to 14" wide, but it holds my slightly larger (~14.125) MacBook Pro with a bit or breathing room to spare.
Overall it's a simple piece, but does what it sets out to do very well, with a few well thought out extras. Don't expect worlds of protection, but it will secure a computer well for travel.
