This is a great product for keeping your camera equipment in your bag from getting affected by humidity. I keep this in my camera bag at all times, especially when I travel to the Caribbean and other warm places, and it should work. I really like that it is infinitely reuseable - if the orange beads in the window turn clear (to show they've absorbed as much moisture as they can) you just put the thing in the oven for a few hours to dry it out and it is good to go again!

I put this in a gun case. When I opened the case several months later, the gel tin had popped open and there were silica balls everywhere. I think I know what happened. I put a ball in water and watched it under a 10x loupe. It appeared to swell up. It's possible that as it absorbs moisture, the silica could swell and can pop open the tin, sending little balls everywhere. Just put on rubber band around the thing and you'll be good. Just make sure you take the band off when you put it in the oven to dry it out.

Comments about Pelican Silica Gel:
Only gave it 4 because I am uncertain if it works. Only had it for a few weeks so I hope it does as advertised.
It's a Pelican product and so I trust its quality.
The great feature is you can reuse it constantly. If it become saturated with condensation you can dry it out easily.

Comments about Pelican Silica Gel:
I enclose my camera equipment on a plastic storage case along with the silica gel canister (2 or 3 oof them) and it works wonders. When it turns white, put it in your oven at 300 dgrs for about 3 hours, and you'll have a new product once again.

Comments about Pelican Silica Gel:
Oh my goodness, I can not recommend a product more. I recently returned from the Big Island of Hawaii where it was not only hot, but incredibly humid. If I had not brought these with me in my LowPro case (Yes, I have some in a bulkier Penican case as well and have loved them for years.) I would have been scared of the damage the humidity might do to my equipment. I had three of these in my LowPro case for two weeks with my equipment and by the time I returned home the crystals were clear and in need of "recharge" in the oven. I love that these are re-usable. I've used these for years in a variety of equipment cases and I honestly can't imagine not investing in them and protecting your gear investment.

The great part is that you can reuse it over and over. I don't have to buy it for a while unless I need more of these!

Comments about Pelican Silica Gel:
Get the moisture out of your bag and out of your gear. Water proof cases don't let water in, but they don't let it out either. Condensation can build up and ruin your gear over time.
Worth the expense.

Comments about Pelican Silica Gel:
The pelican cases are (largely) airtight, so if you close them moisture gets trapped inside. As stated in the product description, taking a closed Pelican case into different temps can cause condensation to form inside because the moisture inside the case cannot get out. Add a dessicant pack like this to absorb the moisture inside once sealed and prevent moisture damage to your stored gear.
One thing I was confused about was if this dessicant pack "leaked" or not (i.e. if silica beads leaked out the viewing window, or the little holes). After holding one in my hands, I can see that it the silica beads are too large to come out of the holes, and the center viewing window is covered with clear plastic to prevent the beads from falling out. This means you can put the package in any orientation and nothing will leak out. One can even use them in a smaller camera bag they carry around. Previously, I thought that it could only be stored horizontally.
Tin says it is rechargeable by baking the water out in the oven. Indication is by color change- the beads turn from orange to clear. So theoretically these can be used forever.

Comments about Pelican Silica Gel:
If you have a case that is water tight, it means that water can't get in....or out! If you have any moisture inside your case, this will help eliminate it. If you have anything metal in your case that isn't painted (ie a firearm), it will rust if you cannot eliminate the moisture. Dont get a water-proof case and not get this!

You should have one of these in every bag. You can use them forever. The colored gels will tell you when to pop them into the over to reactivate them.
These aren't just for pros. Spend the $10 to protect your gear.

when I shoot in tropical countries with my non tropicalized M9 (!!), the camera sleeps every night in a sealed ziploc bag with one of those. same for lenses. avoid fongus, stay dry. although I find it hard sometimes to convince hotels to put it in the oven for 3 hours (to re-dry the sillica beads).

If you live near water or travelling or just taking your equipment outside to the cold from your warm house/car, this is for you!
You can just stick it in your bag and then stick it in the microwave/oven to reactivate the beads!
