Comments about Arri Ballast, 400-575W Electronic for 400W HMI:
For many years now electronic flicker free ballasts have been available for HMI lights - replacing the previous generation of old HEAVY magnetic ballasts.
The first generation of the ARRI ballasts could prove to be somewhat unreliable, however with this new generation of flicker free ballasts ARRI has made great strides in performance and weight.
I particularly like the dimming feature that allows me to "dial" back the light with out color temperature loss and allowing me use my 575 watt ARRISUN 5 par without scrims. A quick set up of a wide lens, bounce card or Chimera and I am ready to work.
I would suggest that anyone using the first generation of flicker free ballasts to take a closer look at this newer generation of electronic ballasts from ARRI.
