I had sporadic spots on my image sensor which I believe came from moving from an air-conditioned room to a humid climate outside. I tried using dust blowers, but they did not work. After doing some research, it appeared that the image sensor on my Nikon D300 needed cleaning. I got some assurances about doing it myself from some internet research, and found these sensor cleaning swabs at B&H. I wasn't sure I needed the fluid too, but I didn't purchase it. I cleaned the sensor using the swabs and did some test photos. It seems they worked fine so far.

Used with a sensor cleaning solution and carefully following a good set of instructions available in many places on the internet, these swabs produce a good result. I clean my own D300 as well as the 30D and T2i sensors in the cameras that are part of our college Photography loan program. A first pass in each direction is usually 90 percent effective, and a second pass usually picks up the final dirt and grease specks.

Someone who cleans sensors professionally has the advantage of using a small vacuum, and working with excellent lighting and at least one magnifying device and sometimes two. But for the average user these swabs will be a cost-effective alternative between professional cleanings.

used on 40d. i used one to get all the oils off, then used another for a final clean. i got oil on sensor from a brush getting a hair out that would not blow. sensor was bad with grease. i applied 4 drops of sensor solution bought from b&h. grease came off in one there and back pass. still had some small dust after so i used another and came clean enough to live with. i have 6 tiny specks of dust that wont blow out but are hardly noticeable.

I use the sensor swabs for cleaning my digital camera. Which works great. They also work great for cleaning the inside of my negative/slide scanner. Lint is very attracted to the screen & the swabs are a great way to get rid of it.
I do wish that they made a slightly narrow one for cleaning smaller objects such as the sensor on the inside of the digital camera. The swab seems a bit to big for that, but, still gets the job done.

Nothing much to say other than it does an excellent job cleaning your sensor, which is something any DSLR user will have to do or have done at some point. Use with an approved cleaner, be careful, and you should have no problem. There are many good tutorials on the web to help you through the process. Don't pinch pennies and use a swab which isn't made for this job. These things are much cheaper than a new camera.

This is my first time cleaning the sensor on a Nikon D200. Each swab came in a steril bag and the swabs appeared sturdy with enough give on the handle when swabing that I did not feel I was pushing too hard or too softly. I just wished the site clarified that I was just orderig the swabs only (without the cleaner) which I had to buy later once I realized my mistake.

My experience was that with a smart method, I could effectively clean the sensor and save swabs that I take expensive. The method used was Copperhill method ([@]) completed with my analysis of cleaning progress, see below.Used Sensor Swab Type 2 and Photographic Solutions E2 to clean the sensor of my Nikon D700. Before cleaning, I had 1 big dust spot that was visible in every picture, 9 smaller ones that were visible in pictures taken with small aperture, and around 20 even smaller spots that were not visible in pictures or didn't bother.I tried to be gentle with the sensor and to save the expensive swabs. From this background I ended up to the following cleaning sequence, taking a picture and auto-leveling it after each operation: 1. Camera's Clean Image Sensor function2. A blow with a bulb blower3. Manual cleaning with Sensor Swab4. Manual cleaning with Sensor Swab5. A blow with a bulb blower6. Camera's Clean Image Sensor function7. Manual cleaning with Sensor Swab8. This worked nicely, and I needed to clean manually only 3 times.I turned the tissue in Sensor Swab after used it once, so I could use the swab twice.

I shoot mainly outdoors with my Canon 50D and change lens quite often which increases the risk of a dirty sensor messing up an otherwise great photo. I reguraly check for a dirty sensor and clean it when necessary using Eclipse cleaning fluid and Sensor Swabs. Its a very simple process and avoids having to correct for a dirty sensor after the shoot.
