My dated Mac had a screen failure. The computer was OK but I was unable to see an image. The cost to service the Mac was way too much to consider until I motive the Apple external monitor plug. This adapter allows me to use a third party monitor. It works well and for the money was a simple decision.

My parents have an older 2004 iMac G5 (pre-iSight cam) and their monitor took the dirt nap. I needed to hook up an extra monitor I had brought over for them. I needed a very specific adapter for this model iMac's display port which was produced for only one year. Most places (including the place you would expect to find this adapter) do not even stock this adapter anymore in-store or online and I thought I was about to drop $1200 on a new iMac. Luckily B&H had this adapter and shipped it out for an unexpected, early delivery. Meaning my folks were down for only a couple of days and I saved $1200. Couldn't be happier with the outcome and the fact that B&H carried this outdated product. Thank you B&H. You saved the day.

This adapter is mainly useful for 2004-2007 era iMacs, I believe. Their external monitor port was mini-VGA and that's all they had. Most modern models use mini-DVI or mini-DisplayPort. I wish apple would use standard display connectors, but what can you do?

I used this adapter to hook up my 2005-era 17" iMac G5 to a second monitor (Viewsonic 19" flat panel). Mac OSX doesn't natively support spanning, but a quick search produced a freeware program to solve that problem. So now I have more than twice the desktop space, which has been quite handy for using Final Cut Pro and other similar programs.
The cable may seem a little pricey, but it appears well made and sturdy. The quality seems inherent.
