Comments about Gitzo G1177M Magnesium Center Ball Head #1:

I bought this ballhead during the rebate period and therefore was very excited to get a good ballhead at a great price. This ballhead is quite light, and travels easily. It is a little larger than I think I expected, but far more compact than my Manfrotto 430MG. It really does hold tight with minimal force on the lock lever, and holds my large camera and lens (~6lbs) firm in any position. Great compliment to a nice set of tripod legs.

Comments about Gitzo G1177M Magnesium Center Ball Head #1:

Purchased due to the phenomenal rebate resulting in a total cost of [$]. However, I find it quite useful as a backup to my arca swiss setup as well as use as a flash stand. Thinking about even placing it on my monopod for heavier lens applications.

            Cheap. GITZO offers 75% rebate.
This is not as good as Arca Swiss Z1 (of course!). But the frame in camera finder does not move when you tighten the knob. It holds EOS5D markII and 80-200mm F2.8 withougt any problem. Besides, it is light. Importantly, you can change the top plate with RSS's clamp. Don't buy quick shoe version. Instead, you should buy this and replace the top plate with RSS's clamp.

Got this ballhead for my Gitzo GT-1541T Carbon Fiber tripod, and it works great. Perfect size when folded up, and strong enough for my Canon 40D, even with the 70-200 F4.0L lens. Was reasonably stable in high winds, but would recommend a strong center weight or other tie down. Looks great on the tripod, and quality is Gitzo superb. Had to really tighten down on the clamp to lock the head down, but it held the load once tightened.

Fantastic! This light weight head is easy to take on and off. No quick release plate but who cares really. It's fast, fast, fast. I'm a busy girl and I needed a lightweight head to travel with. This Gitzo head fits perfectly on my lightweight Gitzo tripod, and the rebate was an extra surprise! Sorry Manfrotto your 496RC2 is back in the box!
A+ Gitzo, you never let me down.

Comments about Gitzo G1177M Magnesium Center Ball Head #1:

I have an old Gitzo (4) section monopod. I haven't been using it because I didn't like to handle it with other tripod heads that have a lot of knobs and leavers on the side. I didn't have a lot of money to spend, and I wanted the head to cosmetically match the fit and finish of the Gitzo. This is the perfect head for a mono pod. I love it. The quick release version is an additional $50.00, but then you have an additional object always attached to your camera, and the mounting plate is square, not smooth and round like this model. I use it with a pair of Canon 15x50 binaculars as well as my Canon G9. Just loosen the clamp and spin the plate and within seconds the camera or binaculars are attached.
Stable...easy to adjust for vertical or horizontal shots. The round base is comfortable to hold for extended periods with the binaculars. A great ball head for any tripod, the perfect head for my Gitzo monopod.
Thank you to the staff at B&H for all the help.

I've always read and heard Gitzo is the product to get for Tripod and Tripod heads. So I just purchased the head only to try it out. After using it and comparing it on my friend's tripod, I realized that Gitzo does deliever as promised. The Center ball head is solid, strong, and light weight. It is very easy to attach, move, and secure. Now that I love this ball head, I've went and purchased the GT0531 Mountaineer 6X Carbon Fiber tripod. Together it will be a great product to use for my Canon 40D w/ my prime lense (35mm L, 85mm L, and 135mm L).

I will be taking the every where I go.
