Comments about Nikon CL-L2 Soft Case:

I use the CL-L2 to carry my Nikon 400mm, it's a pretty snug fit with the plate on the foot but seems to work OK for me. I travel a lot and agree that the shoulder strap arrangement could be improved somewhat.

Comments about Nikon CL-L2 Soft Case:

This WILL fit a 600 f/4 with the hoods reversed, although you'll probably want to slip a little (thin) foam padding into the ends, which seem poorly protected. Good for carrying to a shoot. Doubt it would be comfortable for hiking, or long walks. Would not recommend for checked travel luggage or shipping under any circumstances.

Comments about Nikon CL-L2 Soft Case:

        • Design well considered. • Construction excellent. • Workmanship excellent • Materials excellent • Abundant added padding to custom pack equipment. • I was most pleased to find that by configuring the padding there is sufficient room to include my 500mm lens and my Nikon D3 in the space where the lens tapers, as well as a tele-converter. This is important as it enables one to hike into complex terrain with a compact pack in the knowledge that my gear is well protected. One potential drawback is that there is only one shoulder strap. I will only know in time as I have yet to use the bag for this purpose. [...] I have had numerous dealings with B&H and recommend them highly.

Comments about Nikon CL-L2 Soft Case:

This bag has significantly more structure than I anticipated from looking at the picture, so I pack it with accessories for travel versus mashing it flat. My only wish is that it was slightly taller and had more padding on the top behind the rear lens cap. Overall, though, a very nice bag.

I use this to carry either a 200-400 or the 500. Light and quick, sling it across your shoulder, and go. It is included with the 200-400, and will carry the 500 or 600, although not with a camera attached. The 200-400 with a D300 fits. The bottom pad may need to be removed for the 600 if you you keep the hood reversed.

Light, strong amazing fit and impressive protection in such a small bag, i only miss a second strap to carry it properly on my back. But i strongly recomend it to all big lens users.

Keeping my Nikkor AF-S VR 300mm/2.8 G IF-ED most of the time mounted on my D2Xs body helps me avoiding dust inside the camera. CL-L2 is perfect for that purpose: both lens and camera are safely embedded in heavy duty padded collars into which the lens hood drops.

Comments about Nikon CL-L2 Soft Case:

This is a good case for short trips close to home when the Nikon trunk case (supplied with the lens) is too much. It obviously doesn't provide the level of protection of the trunk, however it does allow you to be more flexible with your transportation. I wish it was a backpack like the Nikon 600 II backpack that was available a few years ago (it allowed you to keep the body attached to the lens) as the shoulder strap can be a bit uncomfortable after a good walk or climb. I do think it is one of the best options currently available.

Great product for field use, when the more protective trunk case is just too much to take along. Use requires willingness to be a lot more careful with precious content.
