I use this tripod on a tabletop to photograph historical documents at the National Archives in Washington, DC. The tripod legs are not easy to adjust, but once you get the hang of it, you can move the legs and camera post while tightening the lever to secure the position. Aligning the two legs on the camera side of the tripod makes it easier to position the camera above the document. I added a plastic washer between the "geared face" of the tripod head so I could move my light weight camera more precisely. I also added a rubber washer to the screw post so I could tighten the camera without damaging the camera finish. I use a small "string level" to get the camera parallel to the document.
This is the second tripod I purchased, so I could have an assistant work with me.

Attaching the camera requires spinning the camera on b/c there is no nut just a threaded post. This makes it hard to position the camera. If the camera is on the tirpod and you want to adjust it you almost need three hands because all the legs and the beam are all adjusted by one bolt. This often results with akward adjustments.
