I use this stuff all the time, for just about everything. IMHO, it pushes to 1600 very well, better than TMAX 400, but not to 3200. Just break down and get Delta3200 if you need that speed.
This flexibility is great, if you find yourself with just this stuff left and you're in the middle of some historic event without a lot of light, you're not out of luck! I think Fuji Neopan 1600 looks a little better at 1600, but the tonal range of HP5 is very pleasing and 'artistic', IMHO. Great for art photography, portraits, etc.

My first choice of film
This product works very well with the urban photojournalism shots that I take. It is very consistent making it very easy to print most shots that are taken with this film.

Ilford film is great and for the foggy, changing weather of both New York and London the 400 is great. With self developing you can get some truly amazing prints.

I love Ilford HP5+ 400! If you're just starting black and white photography, you're probably choosing between this product and Kodak Tri-X 400. Both are excellent films, and you should try both. I enjoy HP5+ because it seems to have greater exposure latitude. Its more forgiving of my sloppy lighting. If you want higher contrast, I'd recommend Kodak Tri-X over Ilford HP5+ 400.

This film is great for all purpose B/W photography. Gets a tad grainy at magnification, but that's not a big deal. (And might be a good thing...)

I'm a student and I used lesser films because they were cheaper but this is a fantastic film that doesn't bend when it's finally dry and gives a great picture quality!

This is a great film. Very nice grain structure and the tonality and shadow detail is fantastic, especially when developed in TMAX developer. Great potential to be pushed as well. I've shot it at 1600 with very little grain increase.

Comments about Ilford HP5 Plus 135-36 Black & White Print Film (ISO-400):
I love HP5. It is probably the most versatile film in my rotation of films that I use frequently. The fact that it can be pushed to 1600 ISO with useable results makes me one happy camper. It does tend to come out grey if you're in poor lighting but easily correctable in the darkroom/postprocess.

Comments about Ilford HP5 Plus 135-36 Black & White Print Film (ISO-400):
I'm using this film in my Film Photography class. The best thing about this film is that you don't get shades of pink in your pictures, this is a true black and white film. The quality of pictures is wonderful! The only things that maybe considered a con are that you need to process it yourself or send it to a lab and that it has more grain to it . I list this as a con only because some people may not like this. Processing it is easy you just need the items and chemicals. And I personally like the grain. It gives the pictures a kind of vintage look! Either way its a great product.
