I got this to use with my Panasonic Lumix LX3 and Nikon D80. It is perfectly sound and stable enough to handle these without a worry.

Overall, I am impressed with the legs but less so with the head. The legs have 3 sections. The lowest expands just by pulling it out until it locks with a spring-loaded stop, and the middle expands with a twist lock mechanism built into the leg. It has good rubber feet and aluminum legs and feels very sturdy. I like that the legs (the middle section only) can be adjusted to different lengths. The center column has a suction cup on the bottom. I take it that you can lower this to your 'ground' surface for extra stability. Okay....

The head is less impressive. I like that it has a level, and I like that it IS a 3-way pan. It feels very plasticy, tho. THe cork surface where the camera connects is pretty chincy. The real problem is that the locks on all three of the pan directions are sticky, making panning jerky. Either they are too loose or too tight for 10 degrees of pan, then WAY too loose for the next 20 degrees.... Not a big problem for still photos, but if you were doing to put a digital camcorder on it, panning smoothly would be a challenge.

I don't expect 'pro' quality smooth action on an inexpensive piece like this, so take this critique in context. I think it's a good tripod, and a great value, but if smooth panning is important you might look elsewhere. I think the build quality of the Giottos QU 100 is genrally superior.

It's easy enough to point ANY tabletop tripod where you want it -- you obviously don't need a panhead for that -- so my only reason for buying this tripod was to use it for videos with panning. This panhead sticks both horizontally and vertically, which causes the panning to start with a jerk that looks bad in the video. At this price, I wasn't expecting (and don't need) professional quality, but I was certainly hoping for better than this. It's not a bad tripod otherwise, but if you don't need panning you might as well get one with a ballhead, and if you do need panning, you'll be disappointed with this one.

Mainly got for traveling and for table top use at home. It's very sturdy and compact. I also use it as a stabilizer for my 60d. not quite as effective as a glidecam but a lot cheaper.

I still think that is a good tripod for small point and shoot cam.

I use this with my camera when I'm traveling light, and for a directional wifi antenna with my computer. It obviously can't hold much weight, the number they give is pretty accurate, but the legs extend farther than I expected and it's fairly stable. I got it only a couple weeks ago so can't say much about it's survivability, but so far so good and I think it'll hold up well.

Very pleased! Better than any small tripod I'd found locally at chain stores. Recognized the quality immediately.

Comments about Sunpak Mini Pro Plus Tripod with 3 Way Panhead:

I needed a small tripod to place my camera low to the ground so I could take pictures of buildings, flowers, and other subjects from low angles to include the foreground in the shot without having to bend down in an awkward stance.

The Sunpak MiniPRO Plus holds my Canon T1i steady and balanced. The 3-way panhead seems annoying to use at first, but adjustments are quick and easy. The panning is smooth but sturdy, good for video capture and blurring movement. The tripod is light and easy to use. All of the parts seems strong enough for regular use. It's also very compact when folded up.

The rubber feet on the legs can slide out depending on how smooth the surface is where the tripod is standing. Also, the tripod will lose balance when the camera is oriented for vertical shots if you don't extend and position the legs correctly.

I only wish the tripod came with a small bag, and wish the stock tripod head had a quick release plate.

I definitely plan on buying Sunpak's Pistol Grip Ballhead for when I don't need to do any panning. Very happy with this product.

I use this mini tripod for shooting low macro shots and would recommend it as a valuable piece of equipment for the nature photographer! For the price you get a very compact tripod that is durable, will double as a table top, and handles those very low angled shots with ease. I was surprised at the weight limit, I shoot with a Canon T1i equipped with my telephoto or my macro lens and have yet to have it tumble over! I plan to purchase a second to have on hand because I certainly don't want to be caught without one!

                                      1. Unlike most inexpensive table-top tripods, the legs splay out a little further on this one to make it more stable.

                                      2. Most for this price don't have a 3-way panhead.

                                      3. Good construction for the price.

Comments about Sunpak Mini Pro Plus Tripod with 3 Way Panhead:
