The review is actually about the case, not the tripod. The tripod was affordable and compact, which was what I was looking for. I plan to use it for long exposure night shots while backpacking in Tokyo. It's strong enough (barely) to hold up my DSLR and 1:2.8, 75mm lens. The camera weights a little over 2 pounds, but it is a bit lens heavy. Tilt the camera down and it feels like the whole thing will tip over. The tripod height is okay for wide landscape shots, which is what I will be taking. The case is pretty much useless; the tripod barely fits the case. I have to adjust the tripod head in order for the case to zip up. If it wasn't for the fact the case was included in the B&H kit, I would not have even think about getting the case. The case was a nice bonus, but too bad it doesn't fit the tripod. I don't have high expectations from Sunpak, so I wasn't surprised of the case design. To me, Sunpak=disposable photo gear. I just needed a compact tripod to fit in my backpack for my trip; if it breaks, I'll toss it and place another order with B&H.

Comments about Sunpak Compact SXL Tripod with 2-Way Panhead - Supports 3 lbs (1.36kg):
The tripod came with a free carrying case, which was great, but the thing I really like about it, is the size. You can pretty much slip it into a back pack and tote it around very easily.
If you have a heavier tripod, I would say get this as a backup that you can basically carry with you anywhere. Or if you're like me, and only use a tripod occasionally, then this is a good, inexpensive, and easy to carry around choice.

Comments about Sunpak Compact SXL Tripod with 2-Way Panhead - Supports 3 lbs (1.36kg):
First off the head is removable. I replaced the head with a small Giottos ballhead and added a Manfrotto quick release. Made a wonderful light tripod for a Canon SX30IS, or any point and shoot camera.
Do NOT think you will be using the included bag, it's to small.

This tripod is as advertised. It's compact and lightweight. It stretches quite a bit too for a compact tripod.

Took with me to a European vacation and it was of great help to get some difficult shots otherwise impossible without a tripod.
