Picked up 4 of these to mount hot shoe flashes to (580ex ii) and they work like a charm. We have some from photoflex that came with our light stands, but the construction, although only slightly different, makes for a completely different product. Whereas the photoflex cold shoes are very loose, which causes the pins to touch down on the mount occasionally, causing a misfire, these mounts by Smith-Victor are the perfect size leaving no ream for the pins to touch the bottom of the mount. The three speedlight rig that I developed has the flashes mounted in a horizontal position, yet with everything tightened down properly we've had no issues with flashes slipping from their cold shoes.
I'll be purchasing more of these and throwing out the photoflex adapters.

The product works fine for my application, but it may not for some others. As you can see from the picture, the 1/4" bolt you use has to the exact length you need it to be or it will protrude into the shoe area. This could cause problems for some people. I personally have it epoxied to my camera rig, so it isn't a problem for me.

Simple accessorie to mount my Rode VideoMic and flash on tripod. Good price for what you get. There's more safe product to the market. But if you use it wise, there will be no accident. Screw it!

Comments about Smith-Victor Adapter 1/4-20 to Standard Shoe:
It holds my Sb800 and LP160 flashes just fine. The only issue I notice is the screw that locks the flash in. You have to have it almost all the way out before the flash will slide all the way in. I have dropped the screw so many times and had to spend time searching for it. I wish they'd include another one or something to keep it so the screw would stay with the shoe mount when you try to slide a flash in. That's my only complaint.

Comments about Smith-Victor Adapter 1/4-20 to Standard Shoe:
I gave these 4 stars because when I received the two I ordered the locking screws were on the wrong side. This part was made wrong the locking nut went through the thin side instead of the side you see on the photo. I called the manufacture and they sent me two free replacements that were correct. Great folks.[...]

Save yourself the potential trouble of having your Speedlight come crashing to the ground. Not all Speedlights will fit this device. This is a cheaply and poorly made item.
You are much better off purchasing the Stroboframe Flash Mount Adapter - Standard Shoe Type (B&H #STMFS). It a far better quality.

Comments about Smith-Victor Adapter 1/4-20 to Standard Shoe:
Not much to this product, but it is well made and reasonably priced. The show is designed to keep the flash contacts above the metal surface of the shoe, but a little bit of electrical tape on the base of the shoe is probably not a bad idea to avoid shorting the flash contacts.

Sturdy, well built shoe. Used for mounting my Rode Video Mic to a monopod, and used as a boom pole. Great solution.

I added a couple of these to my DIY fig rig build. It works great for any type of hotshoe device like my LED lights or audio recorders utilizing a hotshoe mount. Not plastic but aluminum and solid.

Comments about Smith-Victor Adapter 1/4-20 to Standard Shoe:
I purchased this adapter/shoe mount based on a review which indicates it fits the SB900. In fact it does NOT. Not even close!!! Either the previous reviewer and I have very different SB900's (which is unlikely), or the reviewer did not mean Nikon SB900. I spent over an hour filing and carefully modifying & cleaning the part so it would fit. I did not check if it fits SB800.
I therefore caution other potential consumers.

Comments about Smith-Victor Adapter 1/4-20 to Standard Shoe:
Although this product is for a camcorder I purchased it to mount a speedlite camera flash. I bought it because I needed a solid sturdy mount and this one is constructed entirely of metal. My only problem was that I needed to use heavy grade cellophane tape in the center between the slide grooves to avoid shorting out the electrical contacts on the flash mount.

I bought this item to replace the plastic ones that came in with a bracket that I bought to hold 2 speedlights at a time. The plastic ones broke and nearly broke my 580exii flashes that were attached to it. With this smith-victor adapter it holds well, It's strong and steady.

the lock nut spins freely - don't forget to lock it down when traveling or it may spin loose.

This is inexpensive and serves it's purpose, but after owning it for only a few months (of light use), the thumb screw snapped off with the threaded part still inside the hole.

Comments about Smith-Victor Adapter 1/4-20 to Standard Shoe:
I picked up 3 of these and on each one I had to file down the hole drilled out for the tension screw on the side. That part isn't all bad, my main problem is I have to put tape on the bottom where the flash goes. If I don't it shorts out my 580EX and 430EX II. Seems the groove at the bottom should be a little deeper. With some tape or paper though I don't have a problem so at least its a quick fix.
