Lee Graduated Neutral Density (ND) 0.9 Resin Filter - Often it is necessary or desirable to balance the light intensity in one part of a scene with another. This is especially true in situations where you don't have total light control, as in bright contrasty landscapes.
Exposing for the foreground will produce a washed-out, over-exposed sky while exposing for the sky will leave the foreground dark and under-exposed. Lee Grad ND filters are part clear, part neutral density (available in grades of .3 (1 stop), .45 (1.5 stops), .6 (2 stops), .75 (2.5 stops), .9 (3 stops)). They allow the transition to be blended into the scene, often imperceptibly.
Speaking generally, a neutral density .6-to-clear, with a two stop differential, will generally compensate the average bright sky-to-foreground situation and is also the most popular density of the series.

Comments about LEE Filters Graduated Neutral Density (ND) 0.9 Resin Filter:
I was learning to shoot seascapes and this filter performed very well. I was looking for the 4x6 but they are hard to find, so this Lee product actually did well.

Comments about LEE Filters Graduated Neutral Density (ND) 0.9 Resin Filter:
Before I started using this filter, my cornfields lacked definition while the sunset was beautiful, and the ocean was a dark smudge as the sun rose. Now by simply holding this filter in front of the lens (I don't fuss with a holder) I correctly expose each part of my photo and my landscapes are GORGEOUS!!! Who knew there was such an easy solution???

Comments about LEE Filters Graduated Neutral Density (ND) 0.9 Resin Filter:
There are two disadvantages to this filter.
- the price
- it doesn't have hard soft grads options like the 100mm filters.
The price is significantly more expensive than the competitive colkin or the Chinese off brands. The advantage to using these filters is that there is no colour cast.
The filters are small and fit easily into the standard colkin filter holder. It is very snug. I have growing concern regarding flare, but i havne't run into any problems as of yet.
The lack of options in choosing the gradation was quite discouraging. Still this is a very fine product that I would highly recommend to anyone who is concerned about the colour casts.

Comments about LEE Filters Graduated Neutral Density (ND) 0.9 Resin Filter:
great for landscapes including sky when it's important to describe all the zones. Pay attention to use it on very wide angle lenses avoiding the vignetting caused by supporting frame (often I use NDfilter without supporting frame, holding it with my left hand and shooting by cable with right hand)
may be a better choice to bring directly the Xpro mounting frame for greater filters, but filters are 2xmore expensive each one...

Comments about LEE Filters Graduated Neutral Density (ND) 0.9 Resin Filter:
This filter works well with the Cokin filter holders and I reccomend them. The filter balances the lighting and the color cast is negligible.

Comments about LEE Filters Graduated Neutral Density (ND) 0.9 Resin Filter:
I wish I would have discovered Graduated ND filter before, I would have many more pics that are keepers. It's great for darkening the sky and leaving the foreground as-is. When there is a great difference in light levels between subject and background, this filter or a combination of similar filters can be applied. However, I feel that that the 0.9 filter (three stops) is a little too dark for many nature scenes, perhaps a combination of the 0.3 and 0.6 filters (stacked properly) can provide a more subtle and gradual effect. Also, the paper wrapper and the padded nylon pouch are a poor combination for storage. The plastic cases that Cokin uses would provide more protection and easier transport/storage.

Comments about LEE Filters Graduated Neutral Density (ND) 0.9 Resin Filter:
I use this filter to take landscape photos of scenes that have a significant exposure level difference between the ground and sky. The filter is positioned so that its dark region is above the horizon. When properly used, the camera's exposure can be set using the ground-level as the reference without a blown-out sky. The Lee filter is nicely designed to prevent a colorcast and its soft border makes the use of the filter much less noticeable. It works well in the Cokin P filter holder.
