Epson 24" Paper Roller Spindle
The Epson C12C811161 24" Paper Roller Spindle is an optional accessory for the Stylus Pro 7600, 7800, & 7880 printers. It is intended for using roll media that is on a 2-3" diameter inner core.
This is the 'normal tension' version, which is appropriate for the majority of Epson and other media. Certain Epson media will require their high tension spindle, such as Epson Premium Photo Paper, Epson Synthetic Paper, or Epson Adhesive Synthetic Paper.

the printer comes with this spindle; so why would one buy it?
I guess either is in case one lost (?) the original or, of course, if it broke. (But it's a good metal pole). Or maybe, if one was a really high powered print shop and wanted to be able to work with different papers easily, one could have a spindle loaded into each role, saving time from changing. [This is both changing the role; also, since some roles a 2 inch core and some 3, and adapter must be used for the wider. (included also - at least with the printer; it would make sense with this also, and it seems so from the picture).
p.s. When taking off the adapters, be sure to keep them in a convenient 'remembered' location!
