It's a cutter blade. It cuts paper. It's definitely too expensive for what it is. About $10 seems more appropriate, but it's ridiculous price is set by Epson. I "dulled" my old one up cutting through some fabric-based paper. Otherwise, these blades last a long long time.

My Epson 9800 printer is about four years old and I had never replaced the cutting blade. Thick papers like Epson Somerset Velvet were getting tough to cut. Changing the cutting blade was super simple taking only a couple of minutes. Now the printer is cutting like new.
