This Impact Light Stand is heavy duty, black aluminum, with sure-twist section locks and air cushioning.
Air cushioning gently lowers the light, preventing damage to light fixtures and fingers when section locks have not been properly tightened.

This light stand is great. The locks are very comfortable to adjust and sturdy. I really like the air cushioning feature as it allows the light to not accidently drop to fast or hard. The hieght of 9.5' is wonderful for me during weddings while using a second off camera speedlight for additional lighting or in the field portraiture. There is more than enough hieght to work with depending on your purpose. The only draw back is that it is not very compact, but for a heavy duty light stand, what should you expect. I also use a 42 in Octobox with it and seems to hold up very well.

These might be okay if you set them up once and leave them up indefinitely, but if you are going to be setting up and taking down regularly, spend the extra money and get something WAY better. These stands don't extend and deploy smoothly and their components are made of plastic. I've got a couple of these and i've got a couple Promaster LS-4s. The Promaster stands are more durable, more stable, have all metal components, smooth action and snap-locks, rather than screw (makes adjustment much faster). The Promasters were nearly twice as much, but it was money I'd spend again in a heartbeat.
Summary: If you're only setting these up once and never taking them down, fine. But if you moving around a lot, spend the extra money. Going with these cheaper stands will just result in frustration.

Comments about Impact Air-Cushioned Heavy Duty Light Stand - Black, 9.5' (2.9m):
I had ordered a background kit from another manufacturer and not from B&H prior to these stands. I know, a bad plan at the onset. Anyway I returned my previous purchase and bought these stands to create my own background system, always trying to save a buck if I can do so and still have something that works. These stands seem great to me, they are well made, fit and finish is great, I think they will be perfect for my application. In addition they will double as light stands, the ol' double deal, I love it. I bought them as the other "Impact" items I've purchased from B&H have been just peachy. I've not yet put them to the test during a shoot but expect to do that in the next few weeks. Thus .. so far .. so good.

i finished playing with cheap cowboy/generic stand that i can only trust it with cheap speedlites.
Recently join the Einstein club, and needed a better stand, this stand fits the bill and beefy but light enough for my need (on-location shoots).

Comments about Impact Air-Cushioned Heavy Duty Light Stand - Black, 9.5' (2.9m):
I've had these for over a month. I needed four heavy duty 8 foot light stands for background support, boom lighting and chromakey strip lighting. These stands did everything I needed them to do & more. They are fairly light for 9.5' HD stands and easy to set up. The shafts are large diameter and don't flex or wobble when using a boom. They have a 40" base, so they do take up floor space when the legs are fully extended but that adds to the stability.
If you need a heavy duty light stand to travel with theses are pretty good. They do take more room to storing than a light duty stand & at approximately 4.2 pounds, a little heavier to carry around, but these ARE heavy duty 9.5' stands after all. If you need a stand that can handle the 22 lbs load then these are reasonably portable.

Comments about Impact Air-Cushioned Heavy Duty Light Stand - Black, 9.5' (2.9m):
It's a solid stand. Air cushioning is good when using heavier modifiers and you can also attach wheels which makes moving it around the studio so much easier.
Good stand at a relatively low price.

Comments about Impact Air-Cushioned Heavy Duty Light Stand - Black, 9.5' (2.9m):
I thought I was getting an average quality light stand but -- for the money -- it's amazing. It doesn't weigh much, it's quick to set up, and it will hold 10lbs of lighting easily (will probably hold more, but I haven't tried).
The only negative I can think of is that the "air-cushioned" feature doesn't work very smoothly, the load kind of "hops" on the air damping. But, that's a silly complaint of an otherwise-amazing stand.

Comments about Impact Air-Cushioned Heavy Duty Light Stand - Black, 9.5' (2.9m):
For just a few bucks more than the flimsier 8ft, this one is a steal. The air cushioning works but not the best. Impact makes several different sizes of the "heavy duty" series. If I were to do it again, I would opt for the 13ft one as that would would have a wider leg base. It's not like I would ever use it at the full 13ft, its just nice to have thicker poles and wider base. This 9.5ft did hold up my AB1600 with a 7' PLM. It was a tad wobbly but it held it. Like I said before, this does the job but I should have sprung for the next size up for beefier poles/legs. It might be twice the price but its worth it. Make sure to sand bag this stand down!

I uses this product to mount my flash and to hold up my 50' x 50' softbox. It did the trick perfectly without needing sandbags to hold it down. It is very sturdy and I love it.

Comments about Impact Air-Cushioned Heavy Duty Light Stand - Black, 9.5' (2.9m):
Great quality, greater price, greaterer value. Looks almost identical to my non-air cushioned Paul C. Buff light stand which cost me $70. In all fairness the PCB stand is 13 feet, however, the quality of this Impact stand is identical... and it's air cushioned! I use this in-studio.

I use this stand as a pair to hold a background...It does the job.
The price is very low compared to other stands that hold 20 lbs and go to almost 10 feet...
Not sure if it will be durable since I have not had it for very long...but the tightning screws could probably a little stronger.

Comments about Impact Air-Cushioned Heavy Duty Light Stand - Black, 9.5' (2.9m):
I have spent years photographing local high school sports teams and, after many requests, agreed to try portrait photography. I bought this stand as a relatively inexpensive way to hold my Nikon SB600 flash off camera. The stand is worth every penny! It is much sturdier than I expected for the price. I have decided that I need to purchase additional studio lighting and more of these stands will be in that order!

I have no complaints for this lightstand. Its pretty heavy for what it is and stable. I personally think it should be a bit more heavy but nothing sandbags can't fix.

I chose these to support a 9' paper roll background. They are inexpensive but adequate for general use. I would recommend weighted stand support for the final setup for safety.
