This aluminum Impact 8' Air-cushioned Light Stand is 4-section light support with sure-twist section locks.
If you forget to tighten any section with your light mounted, the light slowly descends, thanks to the air-cushioned action. This useful feature saves equipment and fingers from harm during busy photo sessions.

I bought this light stand for my boyfriend as a Christmas gift. He is a photographer who already had one light stand and 2 umbrellas. Before Christmas he mentioned to me that it would be really useful to have a second light stand that is sturdy and roughly 7-8 ft tall. I did some research on [...] reviews and ended up purchasing this particular model. When my boyfriend opened the package, I realized just how easy the light stand was to erect/assemble. He smiled and explained to his family what it was and what he intended to use it for. I explained that someone had recommended using sandbags to stabilize the stand when using it outdoors. But unless it was a windy day, the legs are so sturdy and slide into locked position so nicely, that it's hard to imagine needing the sandbags! Overall, I think it was a great bargain for a great light stand.

This stand is about what I expected for the price. I will only use this for small lights (anything smaller than a 1K). The construction is aluminum, with cheap plastic knobs. The supposed 5/8" baby pin on top seemed small so my light when mounted had a little play. Make sure you bag this one, the floor spread isn't very big. Overall a very cheap stand that will work with small lights.

I use the product indoors as a flash/umbrella stand. It works perfectly so far; I can't think of anything I would change. If you are going to shoot outside, you might want to invest in a sand bag (regardless of which stand you choose).

These are okay. I wouldn't trust anything too expensive with them. They're also somewhat clunky.

I already owned a 10' version of this light stand I got with a kit years ago. Out of all the economical stands I have, the 10' stand was the one that stood up to the most punishment so I got this 8' version to finalize my standard road kit.

I've bought dozens of stands from different brands throughout my 25 years as a pro photographer and the Impact stand I recently bought does not compare to the brands acquired by me prior to this purchase.
The width is to thin and the air cushion performance is not as strong as others, to me I don't feel it will really protect my Canon 580 EXII Flashes if I let go the stand by mistake.
This stand is just OK but spend "just" a little more and get a better stronger one.

This purchase is part of my early exploration into studio lighting. The price is reasonable and it gives me the ability to light posed pictures in my home. The quality is very good. I can see that it will be handy for other things I might try.

Comments about Impact Air-cushioned Light Stand (Black, 8'):
These stands came with a kit and I was surprised at the quality. They are built sturdily and the air-cushioning helps keep your strobe light from descending too quickly and suffering damage. I'm very satisfied.
The section locking knobs are well made and securely lock all sections even with the moonlight and a heavy softbox attached to it. The footprint is wide enough to keep it stable but if you are taking pictures of children and larger groups that will be close to the stand, it's a good idea to use sand bags to weigh them down.
The studs on top of the stands are removable and can be attached to the stand at a 90 degree angle if needed. The stud is threaded at each end and by flipping it you have two different thread sizes. If you don't need the threads, the monolights attach the regular way.
I use two of them to hold my key and fill lights and they are easily moved around during setup.
