As a video production teacher with a variety of video cameras, I need a variety of audio option. For my three GL2s, the MA-300 works really well and gives us XLR external microphone options that you otherwise cannot get get with the GL's. Great product!

It is simpler than an XLR adapter that screws on the bottom of the camera (i.e. Beachtec) but lacks important controls such as a mic/line switch.

The construction is very cheap for the price. The screws that attach the unit to the hot shoe mount are very poorly designed and have a tendency to unscrew themselves after a few months of heavy use. Once these very small screws are gone, the hot shoe mount loosens and causes shorts.

I had to buy a new one within 6 months of the first one.

IT does work as it says, but I really wish/thought it had Phantom Power! I mean really what is the point of buying this expensive device if it wont power the mics? It has power running through the "hot" shoe? Its a bit bulky, and its really just a XLR adapter to mini with out using the mini. I am just disappointing that it wont do more for the price. There are better XLR Jacks out there that have phantom for the same price. ALSO 25mm Diameter mics are what it claims to hold, You cant find that info anywhere till you buy it and it says so in the manual. I think that is important!

I use this product to split the audio on my Canon GL2 so I can attach a larger shotgun mic and I wireless unit. It works just like it is supposed to and I have been pleased with the results. Although it ads some serious height to my camera, and is hard to pack into my bag of gear, it is well worth the purchase because it can take your audio up to the next level.
