Y cable is not the same product as a splitter. This will be "one line out" to two monitors which will show the same thing. One of these "monitors" could be an LCD projector. The Y cable enables you to look at your owm desk top screen while exactly the same image is being projected. This is most helpful for the classroom.

I wanted to have two monitors show the same thing on my PC, one a CRT and one an LCD. But it reduces the signal to both of them, making them both less bright. I am not using it, but it's too inexpensive to return.
