The Kino-Flo 4' 4Bank fluorescent fixture provides soft, cool, flicker-free light like a bounce-source, but with features to control the intensity and spread of the light emitted. It is very portable, and draws very little AC power.
The 4Bank Select ballast has 4-1-off switch dimming.
When fitted with four True-Match fluorescent tubes (available separately), this 4' long 120 volt fixture will emit 84 footcandles with a 100° spread, from a distance of 6'.
Note:All fluorescent lamps require ~100 hours run-time to achieve optimum color balance

Comments about Kino Flo 4Bank 4' Fluorescent One Light System (120VAC):
i have not used the cheaper knock-offs but the color temp is always right with these so i don't know if it would be worth the risk to use the others. this is especially true with super-compressed formats that don't allow for much color grading.

Comments about Kino Flo 4Bank 4' Fluorescent One Light System (120VAC):
We purchased four Kino Flo 4' 4-Bank kits for use in a video and TV production studio. Best features: lots of smooth light for the power they draw. They stay cool, and you can change lamps for 3200K and 5500K color temps. They are a bit pricey however, which is why they rate a 4 our of 5.
Out of the box the instruments seem a bit lightweight and flimsy, but that makes them easy to hang and stand mount. They have held up well. We use them primarily for lighting our large green screen 50'x20', but we did need to purchase two more (6 total) to cover a screen that big. Still, the power they use is less than one of our 2K fresnels, and we can get the green to 80IRE on our Sony EX3 camera. The ballast is not DMX controllable on this model, but we usually run them up full anyway.
I would recommend them.

Comments about Kino Flo 4Bank 4' Fluorescent One Light System (120VAC):
Downside: It's large and can create problems in some cases, needs a C- stand with gobo. Upsides are huge. Low power consumption, low heat and a nice soft source. Has greater punch than a bare 1k equipped with a softbox and has variable light temperature versatility.
I do lighting for corporate and broadcast production. By carrying the 5500k and 3200k lamps, the Kino makes me look good through a lot of situations. With 5500k, I can shoot right along with daylight under a porch or in a heavily windowed room. If a location has very little or no daylight, I use 3200k lamps and can use bleeding daylight for a blue effect.
Because of the shape of the light, I can arrange it horizontally, vertically or diagonally as needed for the attributes of an interview subject. I can soften up a worn face and still get underneath the chin to avoid shadow. When on a rapid setup, the light often looks good if you just throw it up in a hurry with estimated guess.
Clients like it and feel they have royal treatment. Use the output settings and grid to alter the light intensity and spill. Get away with using your other lights in a room with limited AC circuits because the Kino uses so little power. Good for green screen illumination with no hotspots. Love it!
