If there is one thing I've found with lighting over the years, you get what you pay for. The Kino Gaffer kit is no exception. I've been using these for productions for years on sets and on my own with rental houses. I finally broke down and bought a kit. If you can afford it, you won't regret it. I use them on exterior and interior shots routinely. Having a few fresnel 300's or 650's make a good compliment.

If size isn't an issue, I prefer these over the divas and parabeams. Again, it's all what you're using them for.

I am an independent digital film maker and after years of having access to a variety of tungsten fresnels, I am in heaven! Having a soft, high-output, fluorescent light source has greatly expanded my lighting capabilities. The fact that you can lamp up either tungsten or daylight is a huge plus and the remote ballasts are great when you want your lights are rigged in inaccessible places. Also, if you need to hide lights in tighter spaces you can buy a splitter for the ballast and run 2 4Bank 2' systems off of a single ballast. The case that comes with the kit has room for all of your lighting gear AND it has wheels! A simple addition, I know, but it helps out when you're flying solo.

I'm extremely happy with my purchase and would highly recommend this product.

We are independent filmmakers and used this kit, in conjunction with our
Panasonic HPX500, as 90% of our light package for two feature films.

The softness and controlled falloff is a real plus for narrative dramas.

Fat men (4 ft banks) are my Kino's of choice simply because of the extra punch over the fat boys (2 ft banks) Unless you are in a really really tight spot and need a smaller light these will give you so many options for a soft light. The only major drawback to this kit has nothing to do with the lights, its that it does not come with a wheeled case. It comes with a case without wheels (I actually bought this kit in separate pieces through B&H to get the wheeled case) It cost about $50 more but believe me you want it. Anyway, paired with the K32 and K55 lamps at a minimum, this a a light kit you cannot be disappointed with.
