I don't have a lot of experience with tripods, most of the ones I have used are inexpensive. I used to use a Sunpak at school and decided to get one of these for myself. It is just as good if not better than similar Sunpak models. I think the panning control may be a little better. I don't know if I would call it 'lightweight' because I haven't used many tripods but it's sturdy not too heavy.
I pretty much use this only for stationary stuff. I set it up, lock the angle in place and leave it when I'm shooting, so it works perfectly for me. For more advanced usage, or if you're going to be hard on your equipment, you probably want something higher-end.

This tripod is about what you would expect for the price... [$] It supports the camera well, has solid and logical adjustments. I use it for my D70 and a small video camera (about 1.5lbs) for these items it works fine. The D70 with my 70-300 Nikkor was a challenge for my little manfrotto ball-head, but this tripod hold it fine. The video camera can pan pretty smoothly, but the tilt adjustment is always jerky. Still, I wasn't expecting a fluid head [$] If I had to find something to complain about (and I almost always do), the handle is not as adjustable as I would like. It is fine for most positions, but for the occasional low-angle shot, or macro shot it is not in the best place. Also, I am 6'4 and it is a little too low for my comfortable use - I imagine this is a problem for other tripods in this price range, but worth mentioning. Construction is decent - not a bogen but fine for the price.

Comments about Sony VCTR640 Tripod:
We bought it for photos and video and it works for both. The girls were so happy to play with a new "toy" that they laughed for all the pictures we took. Easy to reposition when the girls would move and smooth enough to use during video taking.

Used this little light weight tripod with my Sony HVR-V1U camera on a field shoot. The tilt and pan were smooth and it was so light it was easy to carry the camera and tripod a long distance without getting tired. I would recommend this sturdy little tripod for run and gun shoots.

I have a Sony digital 8 camcorder. I used the tripod for the camcorder to record my duaghter's wedding. After searching thru internet, found B&H has the right one and right price that I want.
It is a name brand, Sony product. It is very light that I can carry it with my camcorder. Even I run the camcorder with tripod attached.

I use this tripod for a Canon Vixia HFM31 HD camera at work. It's great to use and very simple. I can easily explain to others how to use it and they can record when I'm not available.
I also use some additional audio equipment that requires a mount and it's very easy to add on. This tripod has really served its purpose for some amateur videography.
I would say that sometimes you have to be very careful to tighten the adjustments all the way or the camera will shift. Also, it is very easy to knock over. Those would be the only negatives for this product.

Comments about Sony VCTR640 Tripod:
It is good as a tripod should be. But few things that not so bad but should be better. The water level measure should be on very top head of it, not just above its legs and below the adjustable stand.
The joint allow you to pan or tilt a camera so smoothly.
Sorry for my poor English.

Usually I am invested in tripods for flashes and stills, but after dabbling with dslr full hd I needed to upgrade to a better, more fluid tripod. This tripod stands strong with little shaking. Great value...

This tripod is light and functional. It works well with the SONY XR550V Camcorder. I initially bought a different tripod but end up returning it due to its weight. It would much better though if the turning knob to raise it up is made in medal instead of plastic. However with this great price, it's affordable and can be replaced.

I was surprised at how nice this tripod is. I used it with my Nikon D5000 18 - 200mm lens wherever i go. a slight drawback for is the weight. if it was a little bit lighter i would have given 5 stars.
Enjoy guys :)

Comments about Sony VCTR640 Tripod:
Just a little joy, not only was it affordable, but the fluid pan and tilt motion reminds me of the 500 dollar tripod I use at work! And for [$] dollars how can you beat that! I usually am not a fan of Sony products so I was iffy on buying this, but the reviews were too good to pass up. Even if you are a pro, you'll love this, and so will your wallet.

Comments about Sony VCTR640 Tripod:
I have this and it is great. It is very smooth when you pivot the head. It has a nice spirit level so when you are on a slope its nice to tell when your even, so your footage turns out good and even. But when you put it on your camera bag on the strap on top it is big. But its kind of clunky and heavy, other wise its good.

Comments about Sony VCTR640 Tripod:
I was looking for a tripod which should fulfill all basic needed for taking self photos and shooting videos and it's the perfect for me. I think it's a very good quality product having all basic tripod features. It's perfect height options and is very flex to shoot video with 360 degree rotation movement. Excellent product in its range.
