The Kenko SGW-05 Pro wide-angle video conversion lens is designed to be used with compact digital/video cameras that have higher resolution recording ability such as DV formats.
The SGW-05 Pro widens the angle of view by multiplying the focal length of the video camera by 0.5 times. This doubles the angle of view, making it an excellent lens for group or wedding videotaping. Can also improve the composition of many interior and wide scenic shots.

Tried on a canon vixia HF10 but had to return due to significant distortion/out of focus around edges.

I am very disappointed with the fall off on the edges when using My Sony Handycam.
It is okay in the centre but if you want edge to edge sharpness forget it.
Anyone want it for half price ?

Works perfect on my Panasonic video camera with 37mm filter size. It comes with adapters to fit other cameras. I haven't taken it off the camera yet. It makes it way more useful. Looks great. Well made. Feels solid.

Comments about Kenko SGW-05Pro 37mm 0.5x Pro Wide Angle Converter Lens:
This is a great lens for 37mm thread cameras, like the Panasonic digital videocam series. There is no vignetting when matched to the right camera, and it allows for a nice wide angle shot, making for superior lower light close ups.
Why not 5 stars? Well, at full 1x there is a modest fish-eye effect. Most of these lenses have it, especially in this price range. So if you frame your shot to the centre, it works very well. Wider shots with architectural elements will show line curvature.

It would be actually a very good lens, but the thing that happened to the customer who wrote a review in october 2006 just happened to me and on the first day I'm using the lenses!!! That's right! there's a lot of dirt stucked inside the lens on the internal glasses which is impossible to reach to clean up!!! I got the lenses 3 days ago in New York at B&H and now i was shooting with it for the first time and i realize there were many black dots and stripes on the image!!! Guess what? Inside dirt!!! how can i be happy with a lens that gets dirt on the inside at the very first day! I'm really [*] off!it looks like it wold be a really nice lens if it wasn't for that problem, but that problem just ruin everything! terrible! Problems Encountered: Inside dirt impossible to remove!

I haven't had this lens for as long as the guy in the other review, in fact I just got it. As far as the quality goes it is very high quality and looks great. It's definitely the best lens you can get for the money; of course who's to say what will happen in 3 years? If I can get 3 years of use out of this lens then honestly I don't think I'll bicker about it if something goes wrong. By then it will probably be scratched up enough that I'd want a new one anyways.
Problems Encountered: None

I've had this wide angle lens for a little over three yearsand up till now, it has worked for me pretty well despiteannoying vignetting when zooming (which i understand happensto most wide angle lenses).a week or so ago, i noticed specs on footage i shot. eachtime i shot, there were more and more black specs and lines. after some investigating, i realized that it was the lens. it is not dirt on the surface of the lens. it is debrisof what looks like little strips of black paint or plasticinside the glass.it has basically made the lens unusable, and when i took itto a local audio/video store, the guy there said he'd neverseen anything like it. i always store it with both lenscaps in it's pouch, so this is quite disappointing, and evenworse, there are more and more. at first it was maybe 2specs. now, it's more in the 15-20 range. doesn't reallymatter how may, the point is that it's unusable.it had a good life up till now, but it looks like I'm goingto have to buy a replacement, and it won't be kenko.
Problems Encountered: debris in the glass has made it useless. see above
