I found the use of the hot shoe bubble a must for bringing my DSLR to plumb on a tripod. The photographic image then levels with the horizon (visible or not), and becomes upright to the vertical. Obviously, a camera plumbed this way will minimize perspective distortion in an image with straight lines. Of course, even a plumb camera cannot compensate for inherent lens distortion of an image. In use, the bubble foot slides smoothly into the grooves of the hot shoe atop the camera. The eye can easily see the bubbles and their relation to the limit lines and the circle in order to move the camera for centering the bubbles. By the way, the image with the online ad for this product does not do justice to its transparency. The user can easily see clean through the solid plastic block encasing the two levels. I found this simple device versatile. With it, the user can plumb the camera pointing toward the horizon (portrait or landscape view), pointing straight up, or straight down (the latter useful for macro photography from overhead the subject). As well, the user may align the camera body with the horizon using the bubble level in this axis while then rotating the camera lens up or down. The bubble level provides the ease of control to align the camera to suit the needs of the user. Note that a tripod may have a bubble level built in, enabling the user to plumb the camera, but this leveling process can prove tedious if not crude from having to shorten and lengthen tripod legs. Plus, the tripod mechanics may not exactly transmit a precise tripod plumb to the camera itself. The bubble level positively ensures a plumb camera. In short, any photographer using a tripod and wanting to true his camera in relation to the horizon or the vertical, or both, will find this simple hot shot bubble level device an indispensable one for his camera bag.

The bubble level does the job it's intended to. It's easy to level your camera when it's bright enough out to see the bubble.
However, if you tip your camera backwards, but bubble level will simply fall out. Unlike a flash which locks into place, the bubble level simply slides into place, and doesn't even fit snugly. I've almost lost mine several times, and it's only a matter of time before it's gone.

This bubble level is well made, and makes combining images into panoramas much easier. The 2 axes are versatile for horizontal and vertical orientation. It is somewhat expensive for its intended purpose (hence the 4 stars), but I still consider it a good purchase. It is a well-made product.

Use as a quick reference to level camera. I read some reviews about hot shoe mounted levels being loose so I was a little worried but when I put it on my Canon XSI it fit pretty snug. Unless you bump it on something it stays put, ofcourse I don't walk around with it on. I just drop it in my pocket or put it back in my camera bag.

This 2 axis bubble level is small, well made, and fits snugly in the hot shoe mount of my K5s. I often use it for shooting at waist level with wide/ultra-wide lenses to keep the horizon straight and up/down level or not-- chimping helps. These things save the back and knees while offering a different perspective. I doubt it would work well with normal to tele lens though. I also use it for low shooting from a kayak.

I USE THIS PRIMARILY FOR LANDSCAPE WORK. IT SPEEDS MY SET-UP TIME. THE ONLY DRAWBACK IS ITS SIZE WHICH NECESSITATES REMOVING IT BEFORE I RETURN MY D90 TO ITS CASE.

My rating is due to the cost of a good bubble level (which this is) and what I am intending to use it for. My plan is to attach the level to a slave flash shoe on a camera bracket. The bracket is attached to a monopod with multiple quick release plates (one for a digital still camera with panarama capabilities, another for a digital camcorder and a third for binoculars. My hope is to improve the quality of panning over a plain monopod. The slave flash shoe I have lacks a tension spring for the base of the level. I need to work this out before I leave for a cruise land tour to Alaska later this week.
