Once I got the mic, I noticed the lightness of it, including its shockmount. Once I unpacked it, the features like the rock solid body, the double protection grille and the sturdy shockmount (including the replacement elastic bands for it) stood out, not mentioning the very nice looks of the entire system. Having never used a pressure clamp shockmount, I discovered that it holds the mic very well.
About the performance, this mic does a lot more than expected at this price range. Tested with a tube preamp and recorded on a Digi002 at 24bit/96KHz the mic performed great. It captured a lot of subtle nuances in different miking positions on a cheap guitar and voice. It even captured the tonal variations of the voice using metal or cloth pop filters.
Having a cardiod polar pattern, it didn't recorded much room relections, making it ideal for home studios in my opinion.
Finally, features like the longer ground pin and the rubber padding ring on the XLR connector, gives this product a lot of extra value.

Good Value for Price
Great mic for the price. In this price range, it'll be difficult to find a better large diaphragm condenser

Great mic for a female voice, I expect for a male as well. I use it for recording song ideas and it handles my volume and range well.

I bought my first NT1 ten years ago, and now have four. I have mics costing many times more, but constantly reach for my NT1A. I love this mic it gets me the killer sound I am looking for every time.
I cant recommend it highly enough.

I use this mic for Acoustic Guitars and Vocals. A friend of mine is an acoustical engineer and said this mic was tested and came extremely close to the response of a Neuman Microphone.
5 stars!

Comments about Rode NT1A - Large Diaphragm Condenser Microphone:
I have an internet radio show so I use the mic mostly for spoken vocals. That being said, this mic is very reliable for some good, clean sound. It can be pretty sensitive, but in general, it is a great choice for someone who knows the kind of sound they need but is working on a budget.

It replaces an old Shure SM7 and out performs it. Outstanding range with no poping.

Comments about Rode NT1A - Large Diaphragm Condenser Microphone:
I am an independent musician/producer recording stuff on my own in my personal homestudio. I bought the NT1A for overall use (vocals, drums overhead, percussion) and surprisingly it sounded very good on my guitar amp too.
It`s very versatile for a mic in this price range. I`m quite pleased with it.

Comments about Rode NT1A - Large Diaphragm Condenser Microphone:
This mic has become a standard for good reason: not only is it unbelievably quiet and has great definition, it's dirt cheap! I've tried it on vocals, acoustic guitar and as a room mic on a guitar amp and was very pleased in all cases. This mic sounds like it should cost WAY more. Hats off to Rode for keeping the price point low without resorting to the "Made in China" epidemic found with most manufacturers low end products.

Comments about Rode NT1A - Large Diaphragm Condenser Microphone:
This mic is extremely quiet and detailed. It has a slight lift in the treble putting in on the bright side of neutral, but has a natural balanced sound that rivals pro studio mics. I've recorded small chamber music ensembles with a stereo pair of these and we are all extremely pleased with the results, which are as good as any audiophile quality studio recording.
Comments about Rode NT1A - Large Diaphragm Condenser Microphone:
This mic has all the resolution, clarity and low noise of any professional studio mic I've heard. But it has a slight edge with a lift in the upper treble, a just a touch of crunch in the sound. It is not actually harsh or crunchy sounding, in fact it sounds as good as many professional classical music recordings. But it lacks that last bit of warmth, smoothness and refinement of the finest audiophile recordings. At this price range, mics with that warmth and smoothness tend to sound veiled and have higher noise floors. Choose your poison or spend 5 times as much money. No problems: plug it in, give it 48V phantom and it works. It is sensitive, needing less gain than other mics I've used. But despite its sensitivity, I've never overloaded it.

Comments about Rode NT1A - Large Diaphragm Condenser Microphone:
And for good reason. It has NO right to be so inexpensiveand sound so good. I've seen commentaries on how this mic isharsh on the upper end, or was not smooth in the mids. Well,I would have to take issue. For whatever reason they mightbe getting those sonic results, I can tell you that foracoustic guitar and male vocal there are painfully few micsavailable at ANY price that will outdo this mic. You willneed less EQ as it is very opened up on the upper mids anddoes not require a lot of opening up at the top end to freeup some air.....it's already there. This mic is also the TOPdog regarding its self noise....as in there isn't any. It'snice to not have to drive a mic to the point where you hearanything BUT the performance. Highly recommended regardlessof your ego.........get over it and enjoy....you KNOW youwill.......
Problems Encountered: Once again a pop filter is a MUST for vocals
