The COMPOSER PRO-XL MDX2600 from Behringer is an interactive, reference-class two-channel expander/gate/compressor/peak limiter with integrated dynamic enhancer, de-esser and low contour filter, housed in a single space rack-mount chassis.
The unit is similar to the AUTOCOM PRO-XL MDX1600, but in addition provides tube emulation and more compressor control.
Applicable to recording, mixing or mastering, the unit provides total dynamic control. Additionally it features a unique adjustable IDE dynamic enhancer that provides subtle and very musical compensation for the bass "boost" effect that can result from heavy compression.

Comments about Behringer MDX2600 COMPOSER PRO-XL Compressor:
I've used two-channel compressors before, but the Composer Pro-XL is perfect for our current needs. Not only does the compressor do its job and sound great, but the added elements of the gate and de-esser turn out to perfectly fit our changing recording environments. This is a great value for anyone doing any recording.
Comments about Behringer MDX2600 COMPOSER PRO-XL Compressor:
I plan to use this for podcasting and for when I record myself playing drums. My experience so far--- has been great. This compressor is built very well and does exactly what you want it to do. (It also throws in some cool extra features like the DE-ESSER). The only down side is the manual. It isn't written very well.. so if your trying to learn the basics, check out youtube. There are some good videos on how to work this there. Other wise it's a great value and works great for what I want to do.

Comments about Behringer MDX2600 COMPOSER PRO-XL Compressor:
I've been using this unit for about a week now and love it. The compression and gating features on this unit work as well as any I've used. This unit is also packed with a lot of other nice features like the Male/Female button on the De-Esser for reducing sibilance. It will take a few more shows in different venues to decide if I like the Tube Emulator, but all of the other features work as described by Behringer. The MDX2600 removes the noise and limits the peak signal, which is great for a clean and controlled sound. In addition, we use all powered speakers so the added layer of protection is a real benefit.

Comments about Behringer MDX2600 COMPOSER PRO-XL Compressor:
I use this for small studio use, mainly with a single condenser microphone for vocal recordings. There is a lot of features in this compressor/expander and the gate provides an excellent way to create a silent noise floor. It is very sensitive and repeatable in setting. Also the AUTO setting works well for just getting started.
It would be nice to have a bit more guidance in the user manual as the unit is very versatile and better examples of use would be very helpful.
This is an excellent value for the cost conscious podcaster or small studio user.
The LED VU meters are excellent and seem to be well calibrated. Another great feature is a -4 and -10 db input selection on the back. allows use with a wide range of input levels.
Noise floor is excellent and headroom seems very good for a unit of this price.
I like that it uses power cord direct, no "wall wart" style power supply.
