The Link Electronics ENC-896 is a Closed Caption encoder for NTSC and PAL systems with decoder; data channels and text select are offered for user selection. The required input signal is SDI, composite, component or Y/C video; this unit will then insert caption data on line 21 of field one or field two. It will also read caption data and decode for display.

Encoding
Encoding can be NTSC, PAL, on field 1 or field 2 of line 21; this encoding works well with the old system and with updated FCC specifications.
Auto Detect
This unit will auto detect the incoming television system signal and adjust to the correct parameters.
SDI
This caption device allows SDI input with Closed Caption and outputs an SDI signal as well, for those studios changing over to digital.
Future Encoding
This device will meet future requirements of inserting data on lines 10 through 25.
Weather Lift
When emergency messages are broadcast a GPI signal can be sent to the ENC-896 which lifts the captioning up 1 to 3 lines above the emergency character crawl at the bottom. This allows both kinds of text to be displayed simultaneously.
RS-232
Remote can be operated via RS-232 and a PC; an RS-232C input/output is provided for data transmission as well.
V-Chip
This device handles the automatic repetition of the "V-Chip" data and can interleave it with existing line 21 CC data.
