I use this for video recording with one of the new ultralight video cameras, a Canon FS100. For this tiny videocam, the weight of the head & handle tends to raise the line of sight, so I needed to tighten the vertical control. As a result, there is a little "grab" when moving vertically, but not much when moving laterally. Overall, would work better for a heavier camera.

This head is very compact and light weight. It works well with smooth pans and tilts. Works super with the small camcorders. I would have given it 5 stars except for the the quick release set up. It is more difficult to slide it in from the back rather than just snap in as with other Manfrotto units. Then when you get it in the slot you still have to tighten a screw on the left side to stop any movement. I'm sorry but this is NO LONGER QUICK! I want to be able to snap in and shoot, not fiddle with another screw!

Comments about Manfrotto 700RC2 Mini Video Fluid Head (Quick Release) - Supports 5.5lbs:
I use this head with a Canon 7D to shoot both stills and videos. I really like the smoothness of the head while panning, and the quick release is the same as on my monopod, so changing is really easy. The only problem that I ran into is that two of the locks hit the bottom of the camera when trying to tighten them (one is the quick release lock). I have read other reviews where the people have purchased brackets to raise the camera, but my son showed me that all you have to do is pull out on the locks and you can turn them to another position where they are not in the way. That was the only problem that I had, and it was an easy fix. I would recommend this head for both video and still shooting.

used it on both Panasonic TM300 (small) and Sony HDR-AX2000 Sony(heavier prosumer camera). Works perfectly on the small one, for the larger one - make sure you tighten the mechanism properly. The quick release plate works like a charm, and is also interchangeable with the Manfrotto ball heads (like RC2).

Comments about Manfrotto 700RC2 Mini Video Fluid Head (Quick Release) - Supports 5.5lbs:
I have used the RC2 fluid head for many years and they do the trick for their price range. I decided to buy an extra RC2 head to use on my slider/track dolly. This head has no problem supporting a Canon 7D along with a heavy lens such as the Canon 24mm f2.8. All of this while sitting on top a of a fairly complex set of rods. this whole setup is in excess of the recommended 5.5lb "weight limit" of the head and it has no problem handeling it. the only issue I have with this particular design is the thumb screw for tightening after you slide the camera into place. If the camera(xha1 for example) is any wider than the plate you won't be able to tighten it down. a simple round thumb screw without the lever would suffice. In the end, it does exactly what it is supposed to do.

I bought this head for my 055xpro tripod to replace the 804RC2 3way head that it came with, which is a great still head but the fluid movement of this head is a must for Video. The best part is it uses the same foot as my other head.

I use the product for taping musical combo performances. I am using a light weight consumer camcorder, usually. This head pans very smoothly but tilt can be a challange with a light camera; there is a pre-set drag and that's it so I often get a bounce when I tilt. A bit of weight on the tripod helps. A sliding plate would help to get the camera to it's center of gravity over the tripod but, then, that's a bit more money. The head is OK for what I'm doing with it. It's not quite what I'm used to on the job, but it will do for the things I use it for.

Comments about Manfrotto 700RC2 Mini Video Fluid Head (Quick Release) - Supports 5.5lbs:
i currently have a 701rc2 and ordered this 700rc2, figuring it was nearly the same. it arrived yesterday and looks pretty much the same... well built, very smooth, separate locks for pan and tilt.
however, one big difference between 700 and 701 is that the 700 doesnt really have a quick release. sure it has a mounting plate, but mount/dismount the camera there's a set screw (the "secondary security") you have to tighten.
i much much prefer the 701 where you pull a lever to unlock the mounting plate -- quick and simple. plus, the 701 has a sliding plate that allows you to set the balance front-to-back. you just set the balance point, tighten the set screw, then leave it alone.
imho, the 700 quick release isnt; it's pretty much useless. VERY disappointed with manfrotto for this severe design flaw.

Comments about Manfrotto 700RC2 Mini Video Fluid Head (Quick Release) - Supports 5.5lbs:
I purchased this to use with my Panasonic GH2 (DSLR-style) camera and unfortunately the handle of the screw that secures the quick release plate cannot turn 360 degrees with the camera mounted. Of course that means the camera cannot be secured to the head which makes it completely useless for my purposes.
OTOH, I'm sure it's fine for small camcorders that are not much wider than the quick release plate.

The only video camera I have is my iPhone 4 (HD video). I bought this head for use with the iPhone - and it is buttery smooth. Will soon get a DSLR with video, and this head should be fine.

Comments about Manfrotto 700RC2 Mini Video Fluid Head (Quick Release) - Supports 5.5lbs:
I use this head with two JVC Everio camcorders. Most of the video I shoot requires at least a 20x to 30x optical zoom. My subjects may be stationary but are inclined to move without warning which means I need to perform a sudden pan. Although the drag is not adjustable, I've had no problems with eye jolting jerks. Both cameras mount quite easily but you may have to adjust the secondary locking lever initially. I sometimes have difficulty dismounting cameras because of the secondary locking lever. I forget to disengage it. I guess that's what makes your camera safe. Get spare release plates even if you only have one camera

Comments about Manfrotto 700RC2 Mini Video Fluid Head (Quick Release) - Supports 5.5lbs:
This Manfrotto head is the best quality head available at this price point. It is very well made and will probably last for years. I am using it for a documentary film, shot on a DSLR, and the head (and Manfrotto 190X tripod) is proving itself to be a reliable workhorse.
For DSLR shoots I did notice that the 700RC2 appears to have been designed for video cameras, as my DSLR interfered with the knob that tightens the quick-release plate. I overcame this problem by using a bracket on the DSLR first, which raised the body high enough for the knob to clear.
Overall, I could not be happier with this product. With a small camera, I find it difficult to execute perfect pans, but that's reflective of my skills and not the quality of this head. The head operates very smoothly, and the adjustments are easy to make.
The 700RC2 is a well-made, quality product.

700RC2 Mini Video Fluid Head (Quick Release) - Supports 5.5lbs by Manfrotto
Great for smaller HD Flash Camcorders. i.e. Canon Vixia HF20/JVC GZ-HM400 HD Everio
I use this 3x's a week for Live Video Internet broadcasts. I got tired of the cheap $35 tripod we originally purchased at a local store.
It has very smooth motion i.e. pans & tilts etc... And it's small enough to fit in my gear bag perfectly!
This one's a keeper. I would definitely purchase it again!

Even with optical stabilization, panning with a budget camcorder, rarely gives good results.
With the 700RC2 Manfrotto video head, the level

Comments about Manfrotto 700RC2 Mini Video Fluid Head (Quick Release) - Supports 5.5lbs:
This is very easy to use and seems ideal for small camcorders. The pan and tilt is smooth, though perhaps not as smooth as higher-priced fluid heads. I have trouble mounting my Nikon D300 on it and getting the quick release head tight, but then I usually use a dedicated photo head (ball or geared) for that. It's a nice little head that is not intended for heavy cameras or professional use.
