We had an event the day after it arrived, so we installed the batteries in the Walkie Talkies and placed them to charge overnight. The charger gives you the option to charge the batteries either with them in the Walkie Talkie or all by themselves. Great use and lasted a few hours during the event. Need to purchase a few more batteries to have them ready in the case the ones being used run out of charge.
