Comments about Broncolor RFS Radio Slave Transceiver for Mac or Windows:

I purchased the RFS transceiver with the aim to achieve a centralised integrated control over the multiple power packs in the studio.Upon receiving the item, I can get it to recognise NEITHER the GRAFIT RFS NOR the VERSO RFS power packs. Further investigation and comparison with my existing RFS transmitters indicate that the unit may be operating in a different frequency (despite being able to be configured for various studios/units). I have subsequently written twice to Broncolor to get further information regarding configuration/reprogramming options, as the user manual indicates the units are 'programmed' to specific frequency for destination country. The Printed Circuit Board also features what appears to be a data port. Unfortunately, I receive NO REPLY nor product support from Broncolor on this matter. The confusion bit for customers is that Broncolor uses the SAME product code (36.131.00) for this item (regardless of frequency configuration). Further research on Broncolor's website on Data Sheet also reveals NO mentioning of this country specific frequency configuration. Buyer will only discover this incompatibility issue when they have purchased the product and browsing thru the user manual. This is a MAJOR let down from Broncolor. Why build power packs that will adapt to 100V-230V when their communication backbone "The RFS" won't function or cannot be configured accordingly as the units operate in different countries!? Do they expect travelling photographers to fall back to using sync-cords!?For a product associated with a brand name that charges a premium price tag, surely production cost is no longer a concern. It will be much easier (& way more user-friendly) to build a unit that will operate on ALL frequencies via programable configuration via software/firmware (to enable the usable frequencies). This is surely a major design flaw that completely ignores the usability of the product from an end-user perspective.[...]So buyers beware - this product is frequency specific! And unfortunately Broncolor did NOT release sufficient vital information on this product even to their sellers so as to warn potential customers about the frequency specific aspect of this product. I wish that Broncolor can be more candid about this very crucial piece of information on the various data sheets and catalogues. This is a pity, as Broncolor makes great lighting system, but is let down by this RFS design flaw.
