This softbox is well worth the money. An added bonus is the ability to vary the amount of gold reflective material to warm up your subject. I used it recently to shoot over 100 executive portraits for a Fortune 500 company as the main light with an SB-900. Only issue is the back cover hides the speed light from triggering but a pocket wizard solved that. Plenty of light with one SB-900. Although not as sturdy as my Profoto boxes the speedrings are cross compatible!
For a much cheaper alternative to the Photoflex Adjustable Shoe Mount Connector bend a peice of bracket material to fit between a stud and the ring and then bolt a Stroboframe Flash Mount Adapter to the bracket.

I wanted a softbox for use with my nikon sb-600 flash. This was my first softbox (I have umbrellas and equipment needed for those.) So far I am a little disappointed. The light is relatively soft but I have yet to really see the difference from my umbrellas and they are much more portable and fast to set up. In addition it was confusing trying to figure out what other equipment I needed to use. The speedring was relatively easy but I also needed to order a photoflex adjustable shoe mount to xs-litedome connection, which was not clear to me. I already owned a lightstand and pocket wizards. I need to try it out in more situations because the blocking of light from the back (in contrast to umbrellas) may be more useful in indoor settings where shadows on the background can be a problem. I may also try some more light modifiers such as a grid. I do like that there are silver or gold (reversible) reflectors inside to modify the color. It is fairly easy to set up when you have the right extras, as mentioned. A little expensive but most other softboxes are similarly priced. The size is good for small spaces so I may yet find more use out of it.

Gives great soft light with a SB800 flash.
Light enough to hold in one hand and camera in other if necessary (tight spots)
Happy with the results.

This is a nice OCTO, and has some nice features, but seems the price tag is a bit excessive for what you get. Not sure how they justify it actually, but it is what it is. Does the job nicely and no complaints otherwise. We use this mainly as a portable SB for on location lighting we purchased speed rings for Hensel and Buff strobes, thinking we could use it for both but I would not recommend this as a portable unit, setup and teardown is truly painful..!! We have one of the Buff Octos and its as nice, half the cost and it folds up like an umbrella - unfortunately, its only for Buff products - so now we have one of each.

It is great for lighting my subjects for portrait. I bought it to check out the quality before I go up to the 5 foot version for full body work. It is great to have the choice of white, silver or gold interior. The instructions are well laid out and make it simple to setup. Great purchase!

I have been using the dome with canon 580 EX II speedlite and once you get your shooting angle figured out the Octodome produces very nice soft light. Glad I made the purchace.

It gives a great catchlight. It seems a little high in price given its size, but it is durably made.
Narrow profile helps in tight quarters.

I use this both indoor and outdoor. It's not heavy. But this is I can put in my back seat. But one thing about the white cloth at the front seem fragile and a little too thin. Also the price a little than I expected.

I use indoors. Not in a studio, so i need something to be easy to put together and take it apart...

This is a great small light source. With the grid, it makes for a beautiful, soft but directed light source, and without the grid it is beautiful for portrait work with its round catch light. It is a little awkward to set up--a lot of parts--but it is very solidly built. Nice to have the option for the gold interior.
