A speed ring is required and not included with this unit. Remember to get the best type of speed ring for the light you are using.
This is a Photoflex HalfDome 2, Medium Softbox , 15.5 x 55 x 23" (38 x 140 x 60cm). Photoflex makes a wide variety of softboxes for use on your strobes or hotlights. LiteDomes and MultiDomes are for use with strobes only. SilverDomes and HalfDomes may also be used with hotlights. All Photoflex softboxes require a Speed Ring Adapter, which must be purchased separately.
Choose a softbox according to the size of your subject. For example, a small or extra small is appropriate for a head-and-shoulders portrait, or a very small still-life such as a paperweight. A medium softbox is good for a half-length portrait of an adult. A large is suitable for a group portrait of 3 - 4 people.
Choose a softbox interior color for the lighting effect you want. White is the most universal, giving the most softening effect. Silver gives a little more punch and crispness. Gold (with the MultiDome only) adds that punch, with a warmer tone.

- Use a fabric grid to greatly limit the spread of the light
- Use strip and circle masks to change the shape of a reflection on your subject -- example: a circle mask will make a more natural catch light in a subject's eyes
Note:Provide ample ventilation when using flash heads that have modeling lights. Do not use a modeling light higher than 300 watts with a LiteDome or MultiDome.

I have had one of these for a few years, and I had to get a second one. The long, narrow shape is very useful for full length model shots, because it provides even lighting from top to bottom, but at a narrow angle which reveals more shadow and contour when lighting from the side. With two, I can light this way symmetrically.
I have been happy with all my Photoflex softboxes, well designed and constructed.
The storage bag has been updated since I purchased the last one, so it is clearly labeled to indicate which softbox is inside.

I like Photoflex products a lot--well built, durable, easy to use, very professional. This strip light is about twice the size of the small one which I use for hairlighting frequently. This larger unit allows for very selective side lighting or as a single light (turned sideways) for head shots.
Easy to use, light, flexible. A great addition to whatever lighting modifiers you have. And the pricing is terrific.

Out of the packaging the product looks and feels well made.Assembling all the components could be a bit easier but I guess if you need the box to retain its rigid shape the rods would have to be rigid too, so no complaints.The description of the box as being "medium" is deceptive because its actually rather HUGE in my opinion and adequately lights up a short adult or at least a 3/4 of full-sized one :)

easterfilms photography in Reno, Nevada needed a good strip soft box to round out our arsenal of lighting instruments and modifiers.
The HalfDome 2 is the best value for the money. Solid construction and quality of light makes it a great value for the money spent.
The extra mask included with the HalfDome narrows the light even more so I can "paint" the scene with more effect instead of washing out the shadows.
No complaints except that I should have bought one sooner. This box is perfect for architecture and real estate photography. The wide spread of even lighting makes each scene pop.
