Kodak R-27 Gray Cards are used to help check lighting ratios and lighting distribution. They are valuable when you do slide copying or are trying to adjust for proper skin tones in black and white. These cards now incorporate a higher quality MunSell 18% Reflectance (Gray) Neutral Patch. Both cards are double-sided - one side gray and one side white.

If you can't afford a Gretag color checker, these cards are a great way to get consistent color. Yes, you can get white balance off your subject's white shirt, or use the auto mode, or guestimate when you open the images in photoshop, but there's something almost magic about the color you'll get if you use a real gray card to set your white balance. The best part of this particular version is you get a cute baby-sized grey card that fits in your pocket and is perfect for when you're out with a point-and-shoot.

I got this card to set the 'custom white balance' for my digicams.
It does quite well, although some tweaking in your favorite photo editor is still required to get the most from your file.
Main gripe is that it is basically grey paper mounted on plain cardboard. It is already warping. Don't get it even slightly wet - easily discolors and don't leave it in the interior of a hot car - fades. In other words, great for indoor shoots, not so great for the outdoors in even the slightest of extremes.

I am so stupid! I purchased this for custom white balance when I could have gone to a local craft store and bought a white poster board and had it do the same thing. Save some $$$ and go to your local craft store!

Comments about Kodak R-27 Gray Cards:
Despite the miraculous performance of today's cameras the simple old-fashioned gray card still serves it's purpose for those that are serious about photography. However, as with all things, you have to know how to use it. Fortunately there are clear and extensive directions enclosed with the cards.
Comments about Kodak R-27 Gray Cards:
I didn't know what these were for when I bought it, I just bought what was on my class supply list. I think it was a little pricy, but it works great and I do like having different colored sides.

Comments about Kodak R-27 Gray Cards:
I am taking an intro photography class and the teacher said that most gray cards come in packs of two so I was glad to see that this is was sold individually. Works great/simple/easy to use.

Comments about Kodak R-27 Gray Cards:
Think about the total control you have if you use your camera in manual model and measure the quality of light off the gray card. It elimantes the failure of the camera metering system that measures reflected light. So, your white snow becomes gray. With measuring the luminance of the light off your gray card, your snow is white. The gray card will give you perfect exposure.

Comments about Kodak R-27 Gray Cards:
I already owned a collapiable plastic gray card. Just want to make sure its accuaracy I bought this Kodak gray card. Kodak gray card is made of hard paper thus not good for outdoor usage. It is unlikely to sustain any rain or dust. Is best kept it indoor. If it is used indorr, it performs what it supposed to do. And because it could be used only indoor, I giave a 3 stars rating since it does not meet all my needs in shooting.

Kodak maintians the consisntecy needed for reflective white 90%.
I have checked for variation over 30 years and do not see any signiifcant deviations that would be a concern.
Great product.

These gray cards provide a shortcut to precise color balance. By taking a test shot with the card positioned such that it is illuminated in the same way as your subject, you can adjust color balance in Photoshop using the neutral gray as a reference.

Provides consistent midpoint and custom white balance. I like having two sets of cards. Holding a gray and white card together in a proof photo gives both grey and white for editing. Also like the small card for travel.

Comments about Kodak R-27 Gray Cards:
Gives the best possible color representation. Photoshop comes close (with work), but nothing beats the real thing as a starting point. Much cheaper than the filter-type (screw in) gray cards I've seen around, and they work on any lens diameter. Economical and practical. However, set-up time makes them bad for on-the-spot photography.
