This mouse is ergonomic, and comfortable. The way the trackball, buttons, and scroll wheel are placed allows me to use four fingers at once, making web surfing a breeze and fast. When I edit video the precision of the trackball is great. Additional benefit is that if you work with three computers at your desk and have what remaining space on your desk covered in paperwork, it needs minimal space.
I have always liked trackballs, but some of my coworkers are completely awkward when they first try it, so if this is your first trackball, give it a little time, and you will soon be addicted like me.
The main problems I have had over the 10 years I have used this mouse, is the distance from the receiver cannot be more than 3ft, and sometimes for some reason, when I put fresh batteries in, it has trouble being recognized by the receiver. I would pay an extra $20 if it had an internal rechargeable battery. These issues would normally turn me off, but once you use it, and then try a conventional mouse or trackball, you get very trackMansick for it.

The Logitech Cordless Optical Trackman. I'll start my review by saying that I'm a longtime MS Trackball Explorer user. I got one as soon as they were introduced. That doesn't mean I haven't tried other trackballs - I have a bunch of them stored away in boxes. The Logitech Cordless Optical Trackman, I'll just call it the Trackman, is very well built. The ball, the scroll wheel and all the buttons work perfectly. I don't have any problem with the construction - it seems strong, solid and feels good to the touch. The fact that it is cordless is great but a cord on a trackball usually isn't important since it need not be moved around like a mouse. I have a problem with the ergonomics. The box the Trackman comes in says it is ergonomic - saying something is ergonomic does not make it ergonomic. With a good trackball you should be able to rest your hand on it in a comfortable position. The Trackman meets that requirement. However, a trackball should allow you operate all the features without moving your hand; move only your fingers (including thumb). Remember these rules; With a mouse you must move your hand to move the cursor and move your fingers to operate the buttons and scroll wheel. With a trackball you do not move your hand, you move only your fingers. Not only should you be able to operate all the buttons, scroll wheel and trackball by just moving your fingers but your fingers should only have to move in an easy and natural manner and with minimal travel distances. With the Trackman the left click button and the trackball can be operated just fine in this manner. With the possible exceptions of the right click button and one of the two buttons above the left click button, all the other buttons and the scroll wheel require you to move your hand to another position. I could elaborate on the required movements of each finger but this review is already long enough. There are some programming problems with the buttons also. I wanted to be very fair in my review of this device. As a long time trackball user I know it takes time to get comfortable with a new trackball. After using the Trackman for over a week I went back and read the many glowing reviews. I could be incorrect, but I believe that most, if not all, the great reviews of the Trackman were written by people who've never used the MS Trackball Explorer or written by first time trackball users. I'm desperately hoping that someone comes out with a good alternative to the original MS Trackball Explorer. My Explorer is over ten years old, I paid [$] at [...] for it. Used ones sell for over $100 now. Logitech is a good company, they make good stuff at a good price. I use their wireless mice and keyboard combos on my other computers. Maybe Logitech will take a good look at the human hand and come out with the perfect trackball. The Trackman is obviously a good trackball but for now the serious trackball user will have to look elsewhere for something far less awkward to use.

Comments about Logitech Cordless Optical TrackMan Mouse - Trackball:
I would have designed the mouse slightly differently as I like to put two fingers on the ball as I've been using the original trackball from Logitech for years. I've been using this product for a week now and I'm finally comfortable with it. I forced myself to use three fingers only on the mouse and in the end it was much more enjoyable. You use your thumb for left button, index finger to move ball and middle finger for right click.

Comments about Logitech Cordless Optical TrackMan Mouse - Trackball:
I used this mouse for about 6 hours over 2 days. The construction is solid; and the software makes the action of the mouse very adjustable and precise. However, this mouse can be very aggravating and even painful. Instead of letting your hand rest on the mouse (like a normal mouse) you actually have to suspend your hand/fingers perpetually while using the mouse. I developed tendon pain (short-lasting albeit) on the upper side of my right arm in the 2 days that I used it. The mouse was put together extremely well; 5 stars for Logitech. [...] 12 STARS FOR B&H!!!!Solid product, but just not for me.

I am a heavy user, for business and pleasure. This mouse holds up well, but like all, finally fail. So I get another one just like it. But they are getting harder to find.

The trackball has proven nice. It's taken a little bit to get used to, and the ball isn't quite as smooth as I was expecting--but I'm sure I'll get it better figured out as I use it more. I like the customizable buttons and overall responsiveness.

Comments about Logitech Cordless Optical TrackMan Mouse - Trackball:
This is a replacement for the one I bought several years ago. This one has a smoother feel and the ball is retained more securely. The Logitech Trackballs I have had, have been very good products. The marble is still working on another computer. The Trackman FX is still working on yet another computer. The Cordless Optical track lasted several years and the micro switch is the only weak link. The new vewrsion seems to be better, then the original.

This is the second TrackMan that I have owned. The first one was at least 6 years old and it started failing. I will not use anything else on my computers. It is so easy to use and I never get tired while using it, unlike a regular mouse.
I also used one for years while I was working, before I retired.

Comments about Logitech Cordless Optical TrackMan Mouse - Trackball:
This seemed like an ideal purchase b/c I've used corded trackballs before. But... I'm not yet convinced. This thing seems ideal, but it really is awkward to use. The software wasn't compatible with my iMac either for some reason. Not sure what that's about. So, I'm not getting full functionality of the trackball. And maybe that's the problem. No sideways scrolling, the ball is kind of sticky and doesn't roll smoothly, and the placement of the buttons takes some getting used to. If it gets any better, I'll revisit and review again. Hope this helps!

Comments about Logitech Cordless Optical TrackMan Mouse - Trackball:
This is the third one I've bought over 10 years. It is precise, easy on the hand and a marvel of technology. The only limitation is that it is for right-handed individuals. Of the three that I've bought only one has developed a problem and that is a double click that registers when a single click is made. It is the failure of a switch that prompted me to buy a third one as a replacement.

Comments about Logitech Cordless Optical TrackMan Mouse - Trackball:
I used a trackball as a kid when I lived with my parents and I remembered loving it not only for how easy it was to use, but how cool it looked. Now that I'm working full-time, it's so nice not to have to move all over my desk, especially with so much back-and-forth with my keyboard. Much less strain on the wrist and it's an automatic deterrant for people who try snooping around my computer... Other reviews I've read have complained about wireless reception, but I haven't had a problem so far. The receiver is maybe 2 feet from the mouse, but it's under my desk, so it's going through an inch of... whatever this is made of...

Comments about Logitech Cordless Optical TrackMan Mouse - Trackball:
I am the IT person at our company. Most users have no problem with a normal mouse. For those who have suffered from carpal tunnel syndrome or may have had surgery for it, this mouse alleviates much of the activity that aggravates the problem. The track ball location for use with the fingers is the best in our situation. The ball on the side is more problematic.
