With the name MP, the new Leica rangefinder camera joins the line of reporter cameras that have been tailored specifically to the wishes of professional photographers. It is the purely mechanical alternative to the LEICA M7, whose electronically controlled shutter and aperture priority automatic exposure control offer more convenience and functions.
The camera concept of the LEICA MP is tailored to the craft of the photographer! Every component of the camera was analyzed and improved meticulously, and it embodies the essence of more than 50 years of experience in optics and mechanical design. The optimized rangefinder facilitates highly accurate focusing, even under difficult light conditions.
The MP is a 100% mechanical camera, the battery being necessary only to operate its internal light meter. All its operating elements are made of metal, so that it withstands heavy duty use under extreme conditions. Technical gadgetry is purposely limited to those features that truly contribute towards creating a better picture.

Comments about Leica MP .72 35mm Rangefinder Manual Focus Camera Body - Silver:
I purchased one of these cameras when it fist came out back in 2002. About 500 rolls of film have passed through it with out any problems. What I love about rangefinders is the near instantaneous and quiet shutter and the lack of a mirror slap. I'm probably able to shoot two stops slower then an SLR. Fun little camera. Leica optics are superior too. And it has appreciated nicely too. I can sell it now for more then I purchased it new, but I won't as long as film and film processing are around.

Comments about Leica MP .72 35mm Rangefinder Manual Focus Camera Body - Silver:
i bought my MP from B&H about two months ago. i won't spen a lot of time comparing the MP against other M-cameras of modern times. i also have an M6 TTL, from 1998, and quickly compared to my M6 the looks of the MP screem classic, vintage, takes you back to the way things were before, great!!! the shutter feels a little better in my opinion than the old m6, but both feel good. basically leicas just keep getting better, so five stars there. as far as the camera in general, and compared to others... well, i simply love it. i started recently in photography, and i'm an amateur still. so i counted pixels, and memory cards and carried all my lenses where ever i went, and took 300 pictures of the same thing. but with the MP (leica way) i learned to concentrate more on the light, composition, and i love that you can see a little bit outside the frame lines to see what can you add or wait for when taking the picture. i learned that i can take car of most everything with only a couple of lenses (50mm and a wide angle) and somtimes just the 50mm will do. i love film unless you're really a pro with pro equipment on the digital photography the result will never match film with basic knowledge. i've taken better pictures in two months than in 3 years of digital, and is not because the camera does things better than other cameras, it's the way it works that let's you concetrate more on the actuall taking of the picture. don't worry about the lack of buttons and functions compared to digital cameras. humans have been taking great pictures for over a century now, and they didn[t have HDR or autofucos. you'll love it promise. don't worry about such technical reviews or people saying that it can't do macro or action so good. nobody says a sport car is bad for going off road because it's just not designed for that. so is the case with leica. they design leicas so that the camera gets out of the way from you and the picture, becoming just a tool for capturing what you have in mind, which is what cameras are really, just a tool.
