It's "Perfect" for my Sony DCR-TRV11 Hi Res DV Camcorder I've had since 2000. I started a "Mobile Memory Maker" hobby thats almost turned into a business because the great stuff I've done to dvd for local organizations and non profit groups and FAMILY AND FREINDS and necesary groups in the community. The Sound is FANTASTIC and adds the perfect touch to the great quality video. I'm doing video and Sound quality to dvd like NO ONE else around! I recommend this to anyone who wants to make their video memories perfect with Fantastic hi fidelity stereo sound. It makes the memories so real, it's almost like being there again. So B&H folks- if ever in Northern California, I promise to send you home with a great production of your function or visit, and a good mocha or expresso or just good coffee on me! Also- You can count on me as a "Designated Driver", I got 15 Years "Clean and Sober" in Nov 2008. Peace and Blessings to You All, Signed Pat Paul.

I needed an external mic to capture better sound for my video footage. Mainly for kids activities, sports, and school functions.
Overall, for what I need, microphone worked great.
PROS:
Great sound quality. Great sound pick-up. Easy connections.
CONS:
Picks up wind noise easily. Must use foam for windy days.
Didn't know it was battery powered. Expected it to use hot shoe. Now I need to carry extra LR44 batteries to find out how long these batteries will work.
Overall satisfied, but could have been better if it used the camera hot shoe.

Wanted an external mic for a Panasonic TDC-TM90 for recording presentation is a small classroom. The sound did seem a little better but the directionality was no different as far as I could tell.

Great compact microphone for a DSLR. Better than most mikes built into most video cameras and small enough to not take up too much space in my kit. I don't do professional video, stills are my priority but it's nice to have a stereo mike handy when you want to switch to video.

I compared this item to the new sony mic for the a55 and all the specs read out the same. Sound quality is fantastic and plugs right into the a55 with no issues! Recommended!!

Affordable, portable little mic that I can throw into my camera bag and mount onto my Canon T2i whenever I want better sound for my home videos or informal projects. It weighs close to nothing and its humble stature does not throw my Glidecam all out of whack.
CAUTION - there is no battery indicator light which remains on or warns you if battery is dying. The only indicator is a little momentary blip when you flip the mic on and then pray there is enough battery life to capture your audio. Therefore, carry spare batteries around.

Using this MIC to solve the audio issues on a Canon DSLR used for video. AGC on the Canon is fixed & renders the camera almost useless for Video with audio. This MIC isolates the target enough so off-camera noise does not cause the AGC to clamp to zero. It works!

I use this mic for getting ambient sound and for close quarter interviews. It's compact size and weight is perfect for new generation Digital SLR's that shoot HD. I cant think of anything negative about this product.

The sound quality from this mic vs. the camera mono pick-up is night and day. I am was looking for the small mic, simple solution without forking out the $$$ for pro-mics. I use the camera for professional (low-end) and personal use. It plugs in easy, small cord with notch so the cord stay out of the viewfinder's way. It is the smallest solution I saw for mics and is simple design and fits perfect in the mount-shoe.The power switch controls off, 90 degree, and 120 degree pickup. Simple. My one knock on the mic, no LED to show that power is on, not a big deal, just remember. Also, small special battery style but found at any drug store counter. All in all, great price, great product in the sub-$100 category. [...]

I bought this for the new Kodak Zi-8 and it does what it's supposed to. It's not a Sennheiser but I'm only using the camera for personal applications. Dual field choice makes it a handy gadget at reasonable cost. I would recommend it as well as buy it again.

Comments about Sony ECM-MSD1 Stereo Gun Zoom Microphone:
The sound is good, but the microphone is far from being directional. Even at the 90 degree setting you can do a 180 with the microphone and there is not a great difference. Be carefull it does not fit the smart shoe of the Sony HDSR series camera.

This microphone is the first one I have purchased for my video camera. It fit perfectly on my camera and seems to work well. I can definitely tell the difference between using it and not using it. The only thing I don't like about it so far is the power button on the microphone seems flimsy.

I own the old Sony camcorder of Digital 8 standard since 2003. I was allways dissatisfied with the sound quality of the internal microphone. After buying of this device I got a big improvement in sound quality.
One note: I additionally attach a little self-made paper shield between camera and mic for elimination of the motor noise .

Comments about Sony ECM-MSD1 Stereo Gun Zoom Microphone:
I am using this mic on a Sony HDR-HC7 camcorder that I use mostly for personal use or on the job when a small camera will cover the task. It works well. It runs a little "hot," so be careful with the levels. My only real disappointment was that the base is designed for attachment to a full sized shoe, not a camcorder shoe. I had to purchase a $20 adaptor from another company (rip off) to be able to use this Sony mic on my Sony camcorder. Very strange! This is a miniature mic, so it would never be used on a full-sized pro or prosumer camera.

Comments about Sony ECM-MSD1 Stereo Gun Zoom Microphone:
I really like my new mini mic. It is fun to use, and works well also. The only problem, is that the camera doesn't record sound if the mic is plugged in, but turned off. Other than that, it is a great product.
