The Remote Commander works as advertised. There are two things I think any buyer should be aware of, compatibility and zoom control.
I have three Sony video cameras and the Remote Commander only works directly with one of them, the oldest one that has the LANC connector. For the next two I had to buy an adapter that would plug into the Sony's A\V-R connector and provide the female LANC connector. The latest Sony cameras don't appear to have LANC or A\V-R connectors, so it's buyer beware.
The zoom control is two speed rather than variable. The slow zoom is acceptable while videoing, but I found the fast zoom too fast for anything except getting to your subject quickly.

I'm using it to record football games. Pros-Better control than the buttons on my Sony camcorders & durable quality feel. I like the indicator lights that show both power and recording. Cons are the zoom is a little touchy and is too close to the start/stop button for my fingers. Overall great value for the money

Comments about Sony RM-VD1 Remote Commander:
Buttons are a bit small and fiddly compared to the dedicated pan handles fitted to the Sony tripods. But it does let me use a better quality fluid head I've had sitting around.

We needed a quick replacement for a broken LANC connection. Internet search lead me to this item. It works great and mounts anywhere. We're now using it on a non-remote tripod. It's inexpensive and easy to carry anywhere. Universal for a LANC unit. If you use a LANC, this is a great backup to keep in reserve. First time using B&H[...] I'll order again. Thanks!

Comments about Sony RM-VD1 Remote Commander:
This control allows you to control the camera and take pictures with a remote. This is most beneficial if you are doing low light shots and don't want to jiggle the camera. I have re-discoverd the quality of my Cybershot DSC F717. I am using a copystand set up (and remote monitor) and lower light for auction item pictures and, it works great. I like how it also powers the camera on/off.
Also, comes in handy in lower light tri-pod shots for no camera shake.
This adapter works on the ACC port of the older cameras / camcorders.

It gets the job done. I have an HDR HC7 and the zoom level speed is either fast or slow depending on how far down you push the button. No complaints at all, nothing fancy though. It has a nice long cord as well.

Works pretty good. toggle a little small if your hands are large. I use this with a 78" tall tripod and makes filming easier.

Great little inexpensive controller for my GL2.
Works well and does everything listed, but lacks some functions. Best deal for a zoom, focus, record ability.

By not having to press the shutter button on the camera it allows for the camera to sit still on a tripod still and motionless. Sharp photos are the result.

This remote works well with my Sony digital camera. The wire is only 5ft so don't go to far with the remote. There are no peoblems with the device.

Amature videographer. The remote comes in handy as the camera must be positioned out of reach for a clear shot.
