This is a great dolly and companion for any tripod with rubber tipped feet.
The one shortcoming of this dolly is the bearings that allow the direction of the wheels to change are lose and dry-meaning they transmit bearing noise and movement through the tripod and ultimately to the footage shot on it with every direction change-the good news is a daub of silicone grease on each and a couple of rotations around their axis takes care of the noise and movement.
The good:
1) It adds 5" to the height of what ever you use it with.
2) The clamps to attach the dolly to any rubber tipped feet are seriously secure-and stable.
3) The dolly has two folding arms with snap locks to hold them in place-open until it clicks and tighten the attachments for the feet and you're done!
4) The individually locking Wheels rotate as smooth as glass-but a rail system this ain't! The surface it rolls on needs to be smooth and pretty clean-the rubber tires will absorb small irregularities(depending on the weight of the equipment on them), but they will not make up for cracks in concrete, worn/lapped hardwood floors, or lawn surfaces-toss down a track, tape the seams tightly, and you'll be good. Don't be one of those that don't understand what a dolly is for: moving equipment, not absorbing/insulating surface issues. On smooth and clean surfaces you will be happy with footage shot while moving, If you have an irregular surface, this is NOT a transport tool for smoothing that out.
This dolly was included with a tripod and a case for the tripod when I bought it-would have been nice if the case would have been designed to hold the tripod and the dolly-it will go in there with the wheels protruding through the zipper-does not look as professional as the the individual pieces, but does get the job done.

this looked like a great dolly when i saw it on this site. it looked like it had shopping cart wheels, which it does, but it turns out that the "shopping cart" wheels are only useful on very smooth surfases (like supermarket floors). i tried it out on the street near my home and even on the newley paved road, it had a lot of rumbling and shaking that would mess up video and ruin audio due to the vibrations. i only use the dolly now to be able to transport the camera around the set. if you do want to take the chance to buy this dolly, only use it on very smooth surfaces and still be careful about any bumps. adjustments take some time, but if u are using the same tripod over and over, you only have to adjust it once. thanks for reading.

Comments about Davis & Sanford W3 Dolly with 3" Ball Rubber Wheels:
I bought this with hopes to add some extra movement to my video. It's honestly not stable enough for that with the tripod that I use (Oben carbon fiber tripod w/ Manfrotto 501HDV head ~8 lbs).
It does come in handy when trying to move my rig from place to place... at least I don't have to carry it.

This is the best bang for you buck. Wheels lock. Easy pull to release legs from carrying position. Folds up quickly and will fit in with the tripod bag with the tripod. Everything is adjustable.

Comments about Davis & Sanford W3 Dolly with 3" Ball Rubber Wheels:
This dolly is rather neat as you can basically turn your standalone standard tripod into a more of a studio tripod that can quickly be rolled around into position and then clamped down to keep it stationary.
It is a little bit of a hassle to setup, hut not overly so as to make it unusable. I would suggest it only be used in studio or set location applications however; as it is a bit of a hassle to deal with if you need to constantly be on the move with your tripod.

Comments about Davis & Sanford W3 Dolly with 3" Ball Rubber Wheels:
It works well if youve got a nice steady tripod to put on it. Yet, it doesn't fit through most doorways unless you pivot as you go through. Also, because it is on wheels and not on tracks, if you roll over anything bumpy that will show up on your footage. But that's to be expected. Overall, it's incredibly smooth and well made and compact. Great deal for the price.

This came as a free gift with the purchase of my tripod. I am a filmmaker and I use the Canon 7d for it's fantastic hd video capabilities. For video I have just not been able to get much use out of this dolly. Under the right conditions I feel like it would work ok. I just have not yet been in the right conditions. You would need a completely smooth surface to get any good shot out of this dolly. Or maybe if you build a track for it. It has easy set up and tear down and is pretty stable. The wheels lock down pretty steady too. I am sure with a little practice and a dolly track I would be giving a better review. Hope this helps.

This dolly is the most easy way into dolly world.
If you're looking for something to move your camera around the studio, it is perfect.
But the best with this dolly is that the shopping cart wheels are easily removable. I am building a DIY rail dolly system with it and this will be the ultimate in DIY. Simply drill 3/8" holes in your skateboard-wheeled cart, put it onto rails with your tripod on top of it and you will make the coolest shots in the block.
The fact that it's foldable is a great addition to an already great piece for your kit.

Comments about Davis & Sanford W3 Dolly with 3" Ball Rubber Wheels:
It was great to get this dolly for free with my ProvistaGR18 tripod. I like that it has clamps so it can fit all kinds of tripods, and the camps move up and down the legs so they can accomodate smaller tripods. I like that the legs fold down to the middle leg so that you can easily carry, store, and transport the dolly without a problem. Now to get that out of the way here is what I did with mine. I have experience with dollies with wheels like these, and I really wanted track and dolly, so I modded it. I took of the casters and modded the casters. I removed the wheels, cut wood to put in place of the wheels where I drilled a hole to connect to the caster and I drilled an additional hole on the bottom of the wood. In turn I took some aluminum and screwed it to the bottom of the wood, and attached skatboard wheels with bearings to the aluminum. Much like the DIY dollies you find online. I then bought some PBC pipe. I attached the casters back to the dolly frame, and I now have a dolly and track. I haven't tested it yet, but I may even be able to use flex track like some kind of hosing with this set up. The nice thing about this is it looks legit, and the tripod is clamped to the dolly so the only moving park are the wheels. In addition to all this, if I ever have to put the wheels back on the dolly it is as simple as unscrewing 3 screws and removing the wood and replacing the wheels.
As for the original, the dolly is of good quality, it rolls smoothly, but the wheels, I've noticed, may get dented, and pick up indentations from bumpy surfaces. I noticed this when I applied the break to the wheel, which locks both the wheel and the caster (nice touch). The lock made little indentatiosn on the wheel. After long use this may not be very good for smooth moving video shots if you want to use it to truck around. If you are just looking for use in a studio or say in a low budget school, I would recomend it. It's leight weight, and very good if you just need to position cameras. I give it 3 out of 5 just because it's not a track and dolly, I would give it 4 stars if ignoring that fact.

This dolly came with the tripod I purchased. It works for moving the tripod from one spot to another, but I would not shoot while dollying on this. bumpy even on smooth hardwood floor and smooth carpet. I was thinking about cutting a pvc pipe in half the long way and using it as track.

Works quite well, assuming you have a flat surface with no obstacles. Anything less than that, and I hope you can stabilize your footage in post. Pretty similiar to how an office chair behaves, actually.
But for it's price (especially if you got it free with a tripod), it's better than nothing, and won't set you back thousands of dollars for an industry-grade dolly system.

Comments about Davis & Sanford W3 Dolly with 3" Ball Rubber Wheels:
I was a little nervous about this dolly since it is on the lower end of the price range, but I have to say it does a pretty great job. The little wheels make it a bit bumpy, but I was amazed at how well my camera's image stabilization worked with it. Wouldn't use it out on bumpy concrete without putting something down like plywood or even cardboard. The wheel locks are a little tough to set down, but after the first few times they seem to loosen up enough to work them quickly.
For somebody just beginning to use heavy movement in their shots, this dolly is a fantastic tool. Simple, cheap, and gets the job done. Legs fold down, very compact with a handle for such convenient transport.

Comments about Davis & Sanford W3 Dolly with 3" Ball Rubber Wheels:
I purchased a Big Sigma lens and the lens+camera were too much for the ball tripod I owned, when I tried to swivel up or down, the lens would droop down. This is such a solid tripod and a great value for the money. The dolly is just a bonus, I ventured to record move along video with great results. On the flip side, I thought about taking it to Yosemite, It proved to be just too heavy for a hiking trip (my own fault).
