This is a great dolly and companion for any tripod with rubber tipped feet.
The one shortcoming of this dolly is the bearings that allow the direction of the wheels to change are lose and dry-meaning they transmit bearing noise and movement through the tripod and ultimately to the footage shot on it with every direction change-the good news is a daub of silicone grease on each and a couple of rotations around their axis takes care of the noise and movement.
The good:
1) It adds 5" to the height of what ever you use it with.
2) The clamps to attach the dolly to any rubber tipped feet are seriously secure-and stable.
3) The dolly has two folding arms with snap locks to hold them in place-open until it clicks and tighten the attachments for the feet and you're done!
4) The individually locking Wheels rotate as smooth as glass-but a rail system this ain't! The surface it rolls on needs to be smooth and pretty clean-the rubber tires will absorb small irregularities(depending on the weight of the equipment on them), but they will not make up for cracks in concrete, worn/lapped hardwood floors, or lawn surfaces-toss down a track, tape the seams tightly, and you'll be good. Don't be one of those that don't understand what a dolly is for: moving equipment, not absorbing/insulating surface issues. On smooth and clean surfaces you will be happy with footage shot while moving, If you have an irregular surface, this is NOT a transport tool for smoothing that out.
This dolly was included with a tripod and a case for the tripod when I bought it-would have been nice if the case would have been designed to hold the tripod and the dolly-it will go in there with the wheels protruding through the zipper-does not look as professional as the the individual pieces, but does get the job done.

this looked like a great dolly when i saw it on this site. it looked like it had shopping cart wheels, which it does, but it turns out that the "shopping cart" wheels are only useful on very smooth surfases (like supermarket floors). i tried it out on the street near my home and even on the newley paved road, it had a lot of rumbling and shaking that would mess up video and ruin audio due to the vibrations. i only use the dolly now to be able to transport the camera around the set. if you do want to take the chance to buy this dolly, only use it on very smooth surfaces and still be careful about any bumps. adjustments take some time, but if u are using the same tripod over and over, you only have to adjust it once. thanks for reading.

It is smooth only on flat surfaces. If used outdoors or on gravel, make sure to find a smooth flat surface. I use mine with a davis and sanford provista tripod and it works wonderfully. Having a heavy tripod gives it more stability. But I wish the legs could extend further.

My plan is to use this under a brute of a tripod, the Bogen/Manfrotto 3051, supporting a short throw, four foot jib with a DSLR rig on it. It's small, compact, and will definitely hold the weight.
The wheels are solid rubber, and the bearings roll smoothly, so I'll be able to move around a location quickly and efficiently, plus occasionally use it for a dolly shot.
The only reason I gave it four rather than five stars is that when the dolly arrived, the pieces which would clamp the tripod into place were rolling around in the box, having obviously not been tightened down enough in the assembly process. A couple of drops of Loc-Tite did the trick; no problem.

I'm a College Student, and my budget doesn't allow for a lot of expensive toys, but I love film making! How do a juggle a low budget but maintain one expensive hobby? I cut corners! I received the
Davis & Sanford W3 Dolly with 3" Ball Rubber Wheels with a tripod I purchased and boy, it was a dream come true! I thought this dolly would just rattle and make noise, and I figured its only use would be to make my tripod more mobile at a shoot, but the dolly turned out to be of extremely good quality! the wheels are very quiet and glide along smoothly on flat surfaces and even carpet. Outside applications are trickier as there is no shock system, so any sizable bump will affect your video. But this dolly was so quiet and worked so well that I have used it to capture those camera slider-esque shots without having to purchase an expensive slider system. It also adds quite a bit of height to your tripod which is more of a plus than a minus if your tripods are capable of adjusting properly. Bottom line: This is an awesome dolly which I have been able to use while filming in ways I never thought it could be useful for! I would recommend this beast to anybody, especially those who want functionality for a low price.

I rarely have need of a dolly.
For that reason, I didn't want to give an arm and a leg for one. So, I took a chance and ordered the very affordable Sanford W3.
Not only did it smoothly do the job for which it was intended, it was a delight to find how versatile it is going to be in that it can be used with ALL of my tripods, big or small. The built-in handle is a big plus, making for easy handling after it is folded up for travel or storage.
It is a great value at a very reasonable cost.

I use this for my standard tripods for quick movement. I would use it on 1080p video unless you use "sorbathan" between the tripod feet and the dolly clamps. There is to much vibration going into the camera

The W3 Dolly from Davis & Sanford is a cheap alternative to transform your existing tripod into a dolly. My only complaint is that it doesn't stretch wide enough for bigger/wider tripods. Other than that, it definitely gets the job done when trying to achieve smooth tracking shots or when you just want to move your tripod from one spot to another without having to carry it.

I bought this with hopes to add some extra movement to my video. It's honestly not stable enough for that with the tripod that I use (Oben carbon fiber tripod w/ Manfrotto 501HDV head ~8 lbs).
It does come in handy when trying to move my rig from place to place... at least I don't have to carry it.

I bought this by accident...as part of a kit for a tripod. I have used it one time at a wedding video shoot and had mixed results. The dolly (and tripod) did fairly well on a hardwood floor. There was a little shake to it, but not too bad. I then tried it on a berber carpet...which was a very flat carpet surface. The shake made it virtually unuseable. If you can stay on smooth, hard surfaces like wood or cement, you should be good.

This is the best bang for you buck. Wheels lock. Easy pull to release legs from carrying position. Folds up quickly and will fit in with the tripod bag with the tripod. Everything is adjustable.
