The ULTRACURVE PRO DEQ2496 is a high-precision, 24-bit/96kHz digital equalizer/RTA mastering processor with four concurrently selectable EQ modules, ideal for audiophile mastering and PA purposes. The unit provides a thirty-one band graphic EQ, ten-band parametric EQ, a Feedback Destroyer section and three dynamic EQs per channel.
An additional sixty-one band RTA (Real Time Analyzer) can be run simultaneously with the EQ section and has a separate microphone/line input with phantom power. There are multi-functional level meters plus sixty-four user memories for complete setups and/or individual module configurations. MIDI connections provide for full remote control, preset dumps and system updates.
The DEQ2496 features 24-bit/96kHz A/D and D/A converters and two, high-performance floating-point SHARC digital signal processors for high-quality sonic resolution. Also included are a stereo auxiliary output, AES/EBU and S/PDIF inputs and outputs and word-clock input. An internal switching power supply provides flexibility and assures noise-free audio, superior transient response and low power consumption.

I agree with the other reviewers that this is a very nice digital processor. I use the DEQ2496 as part of a home audio system but I also use it in laboratory research. What looks like a difficult to use instrument is in fact easy to use for a device with so much capability. The features and sound quality are quite good. I paid [$] on 6/8/10. The price is very reasonable. With that said, after two months of use the unit failed. It took me two weeks four emails and a phone call to get a RA number so the unit could be returned for a replacement. At the Behringer website where I filed the initial warranty claim, after submitting the requested information, a message appears that said " we will get back to you shortly" which in fact means 2 weeks. After receiving the RA number I shipped the unit off. From the time UPS delivered the DEQ2496 to Behringer it took 43 days, one phone call and three emails before a replacement DEQ2496 was shipped. Unfortunately the replacement DEQ2496 was sent to the wrong address which added another delay before I received the replacement unit. So adding in the two weeks to get the RA number it was more than two months to get Behringer to honor their warranty. I like the unit a lot but if it is used is a situation where extended down time is not acceptable then you probably need two.

Arrived DOA
I'm awaiting my replacement unit - the first was DOA. Behringer has a reputation for this sort of thing; a shame because it is an amazingly capable unit.

Comments about Behringer DEQ2496 Digital EQ:
I use this equalizer in my home stereo system and have been very pleased with it. It makes my system (2.1 with HSU speakers) sound incredible and offers the home audio enthusiast a truly complete toolbox for changing the sound of his or her system. Auto EQ with the Behringer reference mic is super easy, and each of the filters, such as the parametric EQ, offer more than enough granularity for the finest, barely perceptible adjustments. For someone with an EE, signal processing, or audio engineering background, the unit's controls are very intuitive. The manual, however, is not particularly easy to follow, and doesn't offer good explanations of what each of the filters do. I am constantly interested in upgrading components of my audio system; this equalizer is not something that I will need to upgrade.

Great Eq for the money. I use it for monitors and F.O.H. I like the virtual paragraphic Eq option, The RTA is nice to have to. Has a nice sound to it. Makes a great channel insert, I like this unit, Behringer did it right with this unit. B&H has the best price on this unit.

Comments about Behringer DEQ2496 Digital EQ:
I'm using the DEQ in a home audio system: analog preamp signal -> DEQ2496, then digital out from the DEQ (AES/EBU) -> DCX2496 -> 3 amps -> speakers. I am also using the Behringer calibrated mic.
I found the setup to be pretty easy and intuitive, except that I cannot yet find any way to use multiple room response readings to make an average. I'm pretty sure that, despite comments by others, that's not possible other than through manually noting and averaging different AEQ curves.
One other minor complaint is that the VU meter display, while cooly retro, doesn't seem to allow any adjustment of their range. In a home audio setup, the output levels are low enough that the needles barely twitch.
Overall, I'm pretty happy with the results, but still need to do some more measurement attempts with other crossover curves and variations of amp levels to see how much easier I can make things for the DEQ to equalize. It definitely made a difference, even though the AEQ curves looked pretty much the same, when I tried a couple of different crossover overlaps.

I am using this product in a Hi-Fi stereo setup (Magnepan MMG, Halfler 500, Pioneer Elite C-91, two Audio Pro 100W subs, REL Stadium). I have to say that the unit has endless configuration possibilities, and I cannot find any discernable audio signature (i.e. very clean). The Auto-EQ is what I use, and it solved my sound balancing issues. Highly recommended. This same usit was used by many High End copanies at a recent CES (so I've read). My only compalint is it would be nice if the unit was 24bit/192Khz to decode DVD audio.

Comments about Behringer DEQ2496 Digital EQ:
I bought this to act as an eq entirely in the digital domain (digital in -> digital out) and It does this flawlessly.
In addition it has may other very useful functions for the headphone based listening I do which included the RTA and the ability to cross-feed signals with a fully adjustable system (which gives more soundstage).
I've even ordered the measurement mic so I can do a auto-equalization for my speaker based system.

Comments about Behringer DEQ2496 Digital EQ:
I bought it first as an RTA and equalizer. After a while, I kicked out my existing pre-amp, and now just use the Ultracurve between my (SA)CD player and the amplifiers. You can read my substantial and in-depth review at [@] It is way too long to quote here.
