The TUBE ULTRAGAIN MIC100 is a tube microphone/line preamplifier with an integrated limiter for studio, live and hard disc recording applications. It features a carefully selected 12AX7 vacuum tube with UTC technology for exceptional warmth and lowest noise. The unit can be used to eliminate the "dull" sound of standard digital recorders and sound cards.
The TUBE ULTRAGAIN MIC100 will also perfectly complement any studio-grade condenser microphones. When used as a high-end DI it ensures outstanding signal integrity. The preamplifier comes with phase reverse switch, +48 V phantom power and a 20dB pad. Balanced inputs and outputs provide the finishing touch.

Comments about Behringer MIC100 ULTRAGAIN PRO - Single Channel Tube Mic Pre:
I was using an Electric Avenues PA2V2 Headphone Amp as a microphone amp, giving my V-Tech VT1009 just enough gain to be heard through my ASUS Xonar Essence STX sound card. It was functional, but not a good match. I replaced the PA2V2 with the MIC100, and the sound just opened up. Gain matching is a cinch, tonality is more accurate, and headroom increased immeasurably. I haven't overloaded it since putting this in, though I've increased overall volume substantially.
In a perfect world, I would like an adjustable limiter and a power switch - but for the price, you can't have everything. Just unbeatable.

If you try to connect a dynamic microphone to a mac laptop, the input level is too low. This inexpensive preamp boosts the signal to the needed level, and the sound quality is good. You'll need to buy cables to connect the mic to this preamp, and the preamp to the mac.

Comments about Behringer MIC100 ULTRAGAIN PRO - Single Channel Tube Mic Pre:
Instead of buying a stand alone PA system, I'm using this preamp to hook up a mic to self-powered bookshelf speakers. I already own a mic & the speakers so adding a preamp for small cost was the way to go for me.
The unit is hevier than I though. It's well constructed. The function buttons and various LED light are generous for this price range. As for sound quality, like other reviewers mentioned, it does get noisy when gain is beyond half way; Turning up Output beyond half way also created feed-back. Setting the dial at 50% for both seems right for me.
The only I wish for is a power button so that I don't have to plug/unplug power cord.

I bought this to boost the signal from my microphone so I could record my weekly podcast directly into my computer rather than using a more roundabout way, using a tape deck to boost the signal.
It works perfectly for this, giving the signal plenty of boost, with no added hum.
It is also easy to set up, once you get the right adapters and cables to get the signal from the pre-amp to your system.

I own 2 of these now. Originally, used #1 for Home Studio recording to get that 'tube' sound PLUS this unit also gave me Phantom Power on the spot AND it also contains a Limiter function. Bought #2 for my drummer to use. He had a Shure dynamic headset that just wasn't getting it in comparison to our AT Condenser vocal mics. Plugged him into one of these and his headset 'came alive.' I use plenty of Behringer equipment and have never had a problem with any of it. [...]

I use it for recording vocals, however, my condenser mic broke right before I got this, so I haven't had a chance to record any higher quality vocals through it. Regardless, it's inexpensive and it seems to be built quite solidly.

I use the Ultragain Pro with a AKG 2200 in a live vocal senerio. I am part of a vocal bluegrass band and wanted to use just one microphone for our performances. I want to down size my sound system, so I used the set up with a Fender Acoustasonic Amp. This allows me to use this to provide the phantom power for the mic and the pads allow a greater control of feedback. I am very pleased with the warm sound it provides. I am very pleased. I can't imagine a more expensive pre amp being any better.
