The Manfrotto 341 Junior Elbow Bracket makes it possible to rapidly change from a horizontal to a vertical shooting axis without having to reposition the tripod head. It incorporates an adjustable stop which prevents unwanted rotation of the camera upon the bracket, and is great for small and medium sized cameras equipped with telephoto lenses.
Keeping a camera's weight directly over the center of the tripod achieves two important objectives: sharpness-reducing vibrations are markedly reduced & a smaller, lighter and less expensive set of tripod legs becomes practical for use.
To fit the RC2 (3157N) quick release system.

I originally bought this over a year ago hoping to create a panoramic head with it, but I bought an inexpensive pano head instead. Since I had this, I decided to give it a try.
I use Bogen ball heads and a Bogen pan head I've converted to RC2. I use battery grips on my cameras and since I used to use a camera with a rotating back, I find it comfortable to have the shutter release, etc. in the same place whether the camera's horizontal or vertical.
When I flip to vertical with any of my tri/monopod heads, the head gets in the way of my grasping the camera to adjust its position, press the shutter release, adjust exposure, etc., so this elbow bracket is just the accessory to solve that.
Fortunately, there's space between the left of the camera and the bracket to attach a sync cords and/or remote release to the camera.
I'm a working professional so most of the time this one more bit of added gear doesn't look out of place hanging on me, but if I were trying to "pass" as a casual tourist/amateur I'd remove it. Heck, in that case I'd take off the battery grip, too.
This gives a very fast flip from horizontal to vertical. When you're pointed at your subject and the camera's level, you don't have to do much at all to quickly change camera orientation.
I just wish I had a combination of this elbow bracket and the Stroboframe VH 2000! That way the flash could flip when I flipped the camera. When I'm using flash I don't use this elbow bracket.

There is nothing great about it. Everything that it does well, its SUPPOSED to do. Bad things are its heavier than most alternatives. The absolute worst thing about it is that 1/4" tripod mount screw is NOT attached. When this bracket is NOT attached to a camera, it's LOOSE, as in one step away from LOST, and then the bracket is useless. This is by far, the most inferior product Bogen sells. I would recommend everyone to pass on this.

Comments about Manfrotto 341 Junior Elbow Bracket with 1/4-20" Screw for RC2 (3157N) Q.R. System:
The bracket does what it is supposed to. But, it appears to be an afterthought modification adding the Manfrotto quick detach connectors. Although not much instruction is needed, the instructions still could be improved upon.

Comments about Manfrotto 341 Junior Elbow Bracket with 1/4-20" Screw for RC2 (3157N) Q.R. System:
It places the camera in line with the tripod. I use it with a Manfrotto 028 tripod and it's rock solid. I do school photography so I use it almost everyday and I couldn't do without it. It fits with any Manfrotto head and can take my Canon 7D, the dual battery case and a 24-70 f/2.8 no problem with room to spare. Tough enough that I can use the 70-200 f/2.8 without any worry. I can also easily attach the wiring to connect the camera to my computer. Great gear from Manfrotto. I can say nothing bad about this product. Get it if you need it, it's worth every penny.

Comments about Manfrotto 341 Junior Elbow Bracket with 1/4-20" Screw for RC2 (3157N) Q.R. System:
I bought this bracket to be able to used my D80 in the vertical position for panoramic shots. I use it in conjunction with Manfrotto's Macro Focusing Platform which allows me to position the lens over its nodal point. I would have rated it as 5 stars but one of the camera retaining screws can easily fall out of the bracket when not in use. A plastic end cap is provided but can be easily misplaced. It appears a split washer of some type would have made the screw more secure.

I use it to hold my camera in the vertical format when taking landscape images that i plan on stitcheing together later. Works very well with any tripod that has the Manfrotto RC2 mounting plate. Once you adjust it to your camera is will support almost any body with a wide to medium length lens.

Comments about Manfrotto 341 Junior Elbow Bracket with 1/4-20" Screw for RC2 (3157N) Q.R. System:
This is a great gadget to help me remember to take vertical shots as well as horizontal. It's so easy to use. All you have to do is take a picture with your camera horizontal then just quick release the camera and turn it to the vertical orientation, adjust it slightly and then take the image in the vertical position. I was tired of having to move my whole tripod if I wanted to take the picture the other way. Now I don't have to. It also was much less expensive then other L-Brackets that I looked at. Because it was specific for my tripod and not my camera I won't have to replace it when I upgrade to a new model, saving me lots of money!

I shoot students, stills & studio work.
the bracket is solid and fits really well to my gear. I have a Canon 7D with 24-70 2.8L & 70-200 2.8L and it is really solid. I use it on an old Manfrotto 028.
No place to store the special screw other than leaving it in place and screwing a plastic cap on it, which, to me, is risky. loosing it means the bracket is no longer usable. A simple lock washer would have done the trick.

Comments about Manfrotto 341 Junior Elbow Bracket with 1/4-20" Screw for RC2 (3157N) Q.R. System:
I am using the elbow with a Canon 50D and a larger Manfrotto ball head with an RC4 connector. Before buying, make sure that the connector is compatible with your existing system. The item fits well and has an acceptable weight. It leaves enough room for the sync cables on the left (as looking through the viewfinder) of the camera. There is a little bit of extra weight because of the fact that the elbow is intended to be used with several types of cameras. A little on the expensive side, but good value compared to other solutions.

It's perfect for what it is....if you don't want to or are not ready to go with the arca type, fit to your specific camera and have to re-buy if you change camera bodies type system, this does very nicely.
The solid ruggedness is actually quite nice to handle. You do have to loosen it and rotate a bit to change batteries, but that seems like a small consideration when you account for the flexibility of this bracket.
The only real nuisance is that the camera screw is not secured, thus the 4 stars, but that was far from a deal breaker for me. YMMV.

This is a great little gadget for quickly switching the camera between vertical & horizontal without having to tilt the ball head.
The only think I can think to improve it would be to put a "keeper" e-ring on the screw that mounts the bracket to the camera.
I actually ground off a thread half way down and installed an e-ring and it works great!
Very sturdy and not too heavy.

I went back and forth between this and more expensive alternatives from Acratech and RRS. I may yet decide that I "need" one of those expensive alternatives but for the forseeable future, this fulfills all my requirements. I have no issues with twist but I will echo what others have said about wishing the tripod screw was retained in some fashion. Even if you don't loose the entire screw, the washer is going to be pretty easy to loose...fortunately I'm thinking the washer is easily replaced as well. Parts are available direct from Bogen/Manfrotto if you do loose them.

I was looking for a way to take ground level pictures in New York City without getting on the ground myself. I found exactly what I needed with this bracket. I was able to connect my D300 to the bracket and put the bracket on the monopod and start shooting as I walked. Great Photos made possible and easy thanks to Manfrotto.

Used successfully to take panorama shoots. So glad that I found a generic product at a reasonable price rather than having to buy a custom bracket for each of my camera bodies. I agree with others that Manfrotto should have attached the camera fastener bolt with a lock washer to the bracket so it does not get lost.

I've just received my new 055 tripod and 341 bracket, but have not yet had time to use it. However, I have an old Manfrotto tripod and the other elbow bracket (the Senior?) so am very familiar with the way the bracket works. Full marks to Manfrotto for a great product. But why oh why do I have to walk around town looking for an E-clip to hold the camera mounting screw in and prevent it being lost on the 341? This is a bad oversight by Manfrotto, and I can't imagine why they don't fit one during production. My new tripod has a clip on the screw and my Manfrotto monopod has one. I'm going to email Signor Manfrotto, so maybe I'll get a little parcel from Italy in the mail soon. Also, I'd find it reassuring if the mounting screw was just a couple of thread turns longer. I guess it's been thoroughly tested at the factory, but then if I'd been asked, I'd have guessed that I wouldn't have to find my own E-clip!

For the price, this makes a great panoramic tool. I needed to make a virtual tour and looked at many tools - all very expensive. I ordered this hoping it would work. I used my iphone and a level app to level out the bracket and camera. proceeded to shoot 25 frames for the tour. When sticthed together in CS4, they were perfect. Very good value.
