The HQ231 from ART is a dual channel, 31 band graphic equalizer that features FDC (Feedback Detection Circuitry.) The unit also features constant Q circuitry, 45mm center detent sliders with selectable boost or cut range of 6dB or 12dB and connectivity includes XLR, 1/4" and unbalanced RCA input and output connections.
The ART proprietary FDC differs from similar systems in that it is extremely fast and utilizes a set of indicators that show which of the many EQ bands has the greatest energy. Although it illuminates the band with the greatest energy with the brightest LED, it doesn't fully discriminate between bands and will not get "stuck" on one band when there is no signal. The function can also act as a simple spectrum viewer.
The rugged, all-steel chassis occupies 2U rack spaces and is intended for installation into standard 19" equipment racks. Applications for the HQ231 include live sound systems/PA, permanent or fixed installations, church, club and practice PA systems, DJ sound systems, home and project recording systems, and monitor systems.

Comments about ART HQ231 Dual Channel 31-Band Equalizer:
I use the HQ 231 for live sound. I do shows where musicians are playing acoustic instruments using mics and DIs. Mainly I've used the HQ231 to EQ the monitor mixes. I never have feedback problems because the feedback circuit shows if a frequency is really hot and about to feed back. The HI and LOW shelving EQs also are great for dialing in the right frequency for making the HI & Low cuts.

It's like a Ferrari, looks beautiful and performs great! You have great flexibility from the 31 bands. There is also the flexibility of balanced or unbalance audio. Great product!

Comments about ART HQ231 Dual Channel 31-Band Equalizer:
I bought this for my rackmount home stereo system. Having both balanced (XLR,TRS) and unbalanced (RCA) connectors made it easy to connect.
The +/-12dB gain controls in 31 bands were more than enough to flatten the room response. The 1/3 octave controls really help in smoothing out any sharp notches/peaks.
The FDC is actually quite impressive. It acts as a real-time audio spectrum analyzer in that it instantly shows where (at what frequencies) all the power is going. With no signal, the LEDs are all lit normally. As the signal increases, so does the brightness of the appropriate LEDs, but as the signal gets even greater, the unaffected LEDs then begin to dim. A peak signal results in only a few very bright LEDs. Very effective.
My only complaint is that the FDC cannot be turned off. The visual effect can be so mesmerizing that it actually becomes a distraction during social gatherings!

When I first turned this on, I thought it was defective. Then I moved the sliders up from the zero position and it started to come alive and the sound quality improved constantly over and above what I ever expected. It is a good buy and I am extremely happy with it.
