This is a Lowel DV Core 500, TO-83 Case three-light kit. It includes a floodlight, a softbox light, and a small focusing flood. Adjust the shape, softness and color of the light emitted with the barndoors, umbrella and gels. The hard kit case holds it all, including the compact folding stands.

The Rifa-lite EX 55 is a compact, self-contained, 21 x 21", 250W, collapsible softlight that uses an umbrella design allowing set-up in 60 seconds or less. Choose between low- or high-wattage halogen, screw-in fluorescent or incandescent lamps, using different modules (available separately). Bathe almost anything in luxurious soft light, from talking heads to table-top stills. It's the perfect complement to today's compact, light-sensitive digital cameras and film stocks.

With its high intensity #2 reflector & prismatic glass, the tiny focusable Pro-light is more efficient than a Fresnel of equal wattage, yet it gives an exquisite even light, with Fresnel-like shadow quality. It can be used as a low-level key or accent light, fill light (with diffusion), or backlight.

Powerful enough to light a small room yet small enough to fit in a large pocket, the V-light can be used as a broad key light, a fill light (with an umbrella or diffusion gel), a backlight, or a background light. It's also excellent for copy work.

The Pro-light and Rifa-lite EX quick-change power cords easily convert for use with professional battery belts, allowing them to work at 12V, 14V and 30V DC in addition to 120V and 230VAC
Use the included light modification devices to alter the color, intensity, quality and shape of the light
The compact TO-83 kit case holds everything, including the light stands, for storage and transport

Comments about Lowel DV Core 500, TO-83 Case:

I have only used the kit a few times, but it's a nice mix of lights that allows for good flexibility in a number of situations. It's very compact for a three light kit and although I might add another Rifa to mine once I feel like I have a better handle on how to use all the lights to their full capability, I'm very happy with the price/utility of this combination. Lowel lights are great, and the Rifa will be a breath of fresh air for anyone who's ever struggled with trying to put up a softbox quickly. It's up in a snap, and down in a snap. I have to say that it's a bit confusing to decide between the numerous Lowel kits that are out there, but I'm happy with this one.

Comments about Lowel DV Core 500, TO-83 Case:

As an independant filmmaker who often shoots alone or with one other person I was looking for a solid starter lighting kit that included three lights that allowed flexibility for a variety of shooting situations. This kit has the right components and fits nicely into a small case.

I have found using the kit to be simple and the results are as I had hoped. A very elegant solution.

Aside from adding the bulbs, which are well packaged for travel, the kit is ready go to right out of the box (or hard case). As a starter kit is is perfect for getting your three light setup for a high quality image.
