There's nothing worse than a flimsy tripod that doesn't stay where you want it to, or that sags under the weight of a mic. I was looking to avoid this when buying my mic stand and found this one. I was not disappointed. This mic stand is quite sturdy, does not bow under the weight of the mic, and was made to last. However, while using it for our first shoot, one of my crew members pulled on it the wrong way and one part just popped out of place without any force at all. Had I been watching her, I would have been able to tell her that she should not have been pulling on the part she was pulling on, but I was not watching. So while this stand would probably stay together if you didn't pull on the wrong parts, I don't think it should have fallen apart that easily. [...]

I own lots of mic stands in my home studio. I play drums, lots of guitars, percussion, piano, bass, etc. When I bought this, I had no concern for price; I just wanted the best possible tripod with a boom that I could find (but that wasn't too huge). This one isn't it. I'm not impressed by the construction. It's a little wobbly in my opinion, too lightweight, and I'm not a big fan of the boom controls. For the money, there are better stands out there. Yes, it's a pretty nice stand, but not the best you can get for the price. At the moment, Tama's heavy-duty mic stands are my favorites.

Comments about AKG KM210/9 Heavy Duty Tripod (Black):

Well-built, fairly well-balanced tripod. Tall enough to accommodate tall people standing and to reach over heads at concerts. Heavy-duty construction. Simple.

I will be using my (pair of) AKG tripods for filming bands in rowdy clubs and bars and smaller DIY venues. In such settings where I will be on the floor with the rest of the moshing, stampeding general admission crowd I need equipment that stands firmly up to some friendly abuse. These guys, with my Audio-Technica shock mounts--and maybe some sandbags--will definitely do the trick.

Comments about AKG KM210/9 Heavy Duty Tripod (Black):

I bought this to upgrade my home recording studio since my desktop mic stand was pretty pitiful and I was also looking for a way to add sound damping. The AKG KM210/9 is now set up tightly in the corner and laughs at the weight of my R0de microphone. Germans have a reputation for excellent engineering and this mic stand doesn't do anything but build on that reputation.

                    ...at an acceptable price.

If you've tried other tripod boom mics - you know the problems. Cheesy plastic fittings, mic placement creeping up or down, lack of flexibility. Not with these boom stands.

German made far outperform the Chinese made lower priced equipment.

Set it, tighten it, and it stays where you want it. Might be insufficient for hard road use - but they are well worth the price for in studio work.

I like this mic boom. I'm slowly graduating from being a pure amateur using the on board video camera mics to now having each person in my interviews individually Mic'd. This tripod with boom attachment allows you to mic your interview subjects and keep the mic out of the shot. Nice.

My one observation: Be sure to tighten the boom arm and other joints sufficiently. Over time, a heavy mic will cause the friction attachments to slowly sink if not.
