The Alesis Guitar FX Multi-Effects Pedal gives you a gaggle of great guitar sounds and more. Eleven amp simulations (including an acoustic simulator) are cross-matched with three cabinet sims for authentic sounds that run the gamut, from dry and clean to lush and ringing to raw and screaming.

Also contained in this little blue meanie is a set of 30 effects (nine available at once) and a very convenient feature you don't see in every multi-effect unit--adjustable signal routing. For years, guitarists have known that, for example, a wah-wah pedal sounds very different when placed before your distortion pedal, as opposed to after it. The Guitar FX gives you eight different configurations for the nine effect modules, exponentially increasing the range of tones you can achieve. In addition, the expression pedal input allows you to vary many effect parameters as you play. Introduce reverb as you play, or take the chorus effect out for the bridge.

The simple, two-knob interface makes dialing up custom sounds easy, and you can save them in one of 40 user memory spaces. And there's a tuner built in, making the Guitar FX the only box you need to carry with you.

• 28-Bit Sound: Pristine, crystal-clear sound is the product of high-resolution 28-bit resolution modeling.

• Amp & Cabinet Simulation: Ten archetypical amp tones are digitally simulated, along with three time-tested cabinets. You can record direct with no need for the space requirements, weight, or noise of an amplifier.

• Full Effects Suite: The usual suspects are here--distortion, reverbs, delays, chorus and flange. But so are a few you wouldn't expect in an inexpensive unit, such as step filter, slow attack, and a rotary speaker simulation.

• Expression Pedal Input: Any 1/4"-connected expression pedal will greatly expand the Guitar FX's capabilities by allowing for real-time parameter adjustment.

• Built-In Tuner: Just push both pedals at once to mute your output and bring up the tuner. Tuning between songs, even in the dark, is a no-brainer.
