The Bizarre Guitar CD-ROM in Roland format owes much to Eric Pershin's efforts with the Distorted Reality series. A unique collaboration between Peter Maunu and Eric Persing, the library uses the guitar as its point of departure, but is definitely not a collection of guitar multi-samples or collection of riffs. Instead, it features the extreme contrasts of breathtakingly beautiful ambience beds to searing harmonic slashes, bowed guitar and unsettling washes.
Created with tape loop techniques, e-bow, cutting edge signal processing tricks and the Roland VG-8 guitar system, the textures on Bizarre Guitar are truly one-of-a-kind. Often the samples are processed to such an extent that it is difficult to tell that a guitar was ever involved. There are heavily treated guitars with ring modulators and other processors to make them sound extremely electronic, while others are processed to make them sound almost like synthesizer strings, ethereal pianos or electronic marimbas. Included with the CD-ROM is an the audio CD and a Groove Control section. This provides the ability to independently change the tempo and key of selected guitar loops, directly from a sequencer. One can quantize the feel, do pitch bend and tempo changes and the groove will stay locked.
