The Beyerdynamic MCE 494 is a convenient, compact microphone for those who require a remote microphone for use with direct connection to notebooks, mobile DAT and MD recorders in teleconferencing, speech recognition and interviewing applications. It features an electret condenser element providing a 30 to 18,000 Hz frequency response. The microphone is powered from the microphone input of the connected device. Due to its cardioid polar pattern, the MCE 494 has high-gain-before feedback (PC loudspeaker ) and rejects back-ground sounds such as drive noise. The wide frequency response gives clear and precise voice reproduction with high intelligibility. It's light weight design features an 1/8" mini jack for direct connection.

Comments about Beyerdynamic MCE 494 - Portable Cardioid Microphone:
I bought the MCE 494 to replace the missing stereo mic for my M-audio pocket-size digital recorder. It does not disappoint. I'm a songwriter and use it for recording song ideas. I'm also recording my twins voices for posterity. This handy little mic pops right out of my pocket and into the recorder whenever needed. Its powered by the recorder so no batteries are necessary. The sound reproduction of voice is very clear, but the shocker was how well it recorded guitar. You can "feel" the strong mid-range of a Martin D-28 resonating. Stereo is not missed since it sounds so good. The only downside is that it sticks straight up like a periscope. I need to be sure not to bump it (or let the twins grab it!) or it'll snap off.
