Comments about Bose 301 Series V Direct/Reflecting Speaker System (Cherry):
I had to scale down in size as my former Bose system with the giant base unit was too big for my new situation. I was hoping to come somewhat close to my former system but was so happy with the performance of these speakers!! I can still "feel" the music with these! And they are beautiful in the cherry.

Comments about Bose 301 Series V Direct/Reflecting Speaker System (Cherry):
Having remodeled our living room, I was looking for speakers to replace the very large ones we had been using for many years. They had 15 inch woofers and I was skeptical that book shelf speakers coud provide the same level of sound quality we were used to. The Bose 301 speakers proved me wrong. They have been mounted in a true bookshelf setting about 6 feet apart and 4 feet off the ground. While the bookshel location does not take full advantage of the direct reflecting feature of the speakers they have proven well worth the modest cost. Clean highs, full mid range, and surprisingly rich bass despite only 8 inch woffers were a pleasant revalation. If placed on stands to take full advantage of the direct reflecting design I'm sure they would adequately fill any medium to large residential room. The design and finish are also very attractive. I would definitely recommed these to anyone looking for a bookshelf installation.

They are great for just music, not great for karaoke. So that I prefer them for my favorite speakers.

Comments about Bose 301 Series V Direct/Reflecting Speaker System (Cherry):
Since purchasing the Bose 301s, I've had the chance to play everything in my music library through them. My conclusion is that they are not for every one. If you listen to heavy metal or hard rock forget about them. If you listen to classical, acoustic, jazz or bluegrass you'll love these speakers! The direct/reflecting system works if they are set up correctly. I have them about 6ft apart on 2ft speaker stands and 1ft away the wall. The angled tweeters and rear firing drivers bounce sound off the walls adding realism to live performances and widen the listening range. I can actually stand to the side of the speakers and still hear both channels well. The 8in woofer and ported enclosure produce a good amount of smooth bass. I think they are perfect for the type of music I listen to and the environment I have them in. All something to consider before buying the 301s.
