The SC-28 provides full TTL control for Nikon Speedlites when used off camera with Nikon SLR cameras which have the TTL hot flash shoe. Approximately 9' (3 m) long & coiled, it permits easy use of flash when the camera is mounted upon a bracket.
This cord replaces the SC-17. Improvements on the SC-28 over the SC-17 are: Posi-Lock (an improved locking switch) and the cord on the camera shoe that now connects parallel to the camera.

Some good friends recently asked me to shoot their wedding. That meant taking the camera hand-held for most of the frames. I wanted a little more dramatic lighting than you get shooting straight ahead with the flash mounted on the camera. And besides I needed to be able to quickly switch from landscape to portrait framing as needed. Having the flash on this nifty, spring-coiled cord made that easy. I was able to hold the flash head high and wide to bring up a little shadow when I needed it. Handy product to have in the old kit bag.

I bought The SC28 TTL cord to go with my Digital ProM flash frame. But now I have used it even without the flash frame. I simply hook it on a tripod and works wonderful.
Before I bought this one I bought a cheaper "no brand version" but my Nikon did not like it. So I bought this one, which I should have done from the start and saved my monies trying to buy a cheaper brand.
Will recommend it and also the length is good.

I've been a long-term user of the old version of this cord. This one seems at least as sturdy - with drastically improved securing of flash ánd camera.

I do not do a lot of flash photography but needed something that would allow me to hand held the flash. This works well. It is easy to attach and operate.

After attaching and detaching an older cord from a flash bracket (for years), I purchased a second remote cord to keep in my travel bag to use when I just wanted to hand-hold my strobe, or didn't want to pack the bracket. My only question is, why did I wait so long to make the purchase? My new cord is far superior to my older one adding flexibility and abundant elastic tension.

Comments about Nikon SC-28 TTL Remote Cord - Coiled 3-9':
The cord was purchased mainly to replace a SC-17 cord that was used with an SB 800 flash mounted off camera mainly for bird photography with and without a flash tele-extender. It will also work with an SB-400 unlike the other older cords.
Having owned other Nikon off-camera cords in the past, this one seems well built. One reason is the mounting shoe for the SB800 and the part that connects to the camera's hot-shoe, lets call it the foot, are metal not plastic. The other is the way the SC-28's foot attaches to the camera's hot-shoe-at right angles to the shoe and with a good locking lever. Since using it there hasn't been any problems attaching it on or off and the flash's ready-lite indicator on the D3's showed that the SB-800 was ready to use. The cord itself also is well made.
This is not a criticism of the cord but one thing to keep in mind if one uses the cord with an SB-800 type flash and or a tele flash extender. This increases the weight the SC-28 has to bear. Note that although the cord's foot is metal the part that encloses it is plastic, it has to be that way because of electrical connections. If one walks around with the flash attached it has the potential to come loose and damage the connection because of stress induced when walking around carrying your equipment with the flash attached. To avoid this, attach the flash when your in the area you want to photograph and remove it when your done for the day.
Finally, the only negative is its a little pricey but I would recommend it.

I used this cord to connect my Nikon D-5000 and Nikon SB-700 flash. It performed flawlessly taking photos during a recent wedding. The images were all correctly exposed using the "P" mode on my camera. The cord itself is well made and should hold up well during repeated use.

So far I have no complaints about this product, actually I have used it five times in the last week and LOVE it! I use it with my D80 and 600 speedlight. The coiled cord is heavy duty... the connectors fit perfectly and it really has helped with "lighting" up specific angles for me! Buy this product even though it may be pricier than some of the non-Nikon cords. In the long run, you won't be disappointed!
